    rechamber 223 to 220 swift

Hello all, I am seeking a 220 swift barrel, not much luck. A friend told me he could rechamber a 223 barrel for me whitch sound great, but barrel twist is different. I have a 220 swift ruger 14 twist, and I shoot 55 gr. spitzers threw it with amazing accuracy, and want to duplicate that. Will a 223 barrel with 10 or 12 twist even come close?

Personally I'd want the faster twist so I could run heavier bullets. I wish I'd done some research before ordering my 22-250, it came with a 1-12 twist. I probably would've got a 1-9. BTW the 250 shoots tiny groups with Sierra 55gr Gamekings, I would expect a 12 twist Swift to shoot 55gr pills just as well.

Have you tried Jim at Apache Gun Works? I just purchased a 220 Swift barrel and he does amazing work. He is a Site Sponsor as well.

I have a 12, 14, and a 16 twist, I like my 16T the best they are all Ackley Improved versions, I can even shoot 60s with the 16T but the 40 gr Vmax's @ 4800 FPS are the nastiest.

First... Welcome to the Fraternity of the Barrel Nut

This is a first rate group of folks and are, in general, a helpful group of people.

There has been known to be an eccentric or two in the bushes.

    Second...

As to converting a 223 to 220 Swift.

Mechanically it can be done, but it is...

    Sacrilege.

The proper bullet for the 220 Swift is the 48 grain bullet.

    14-inch twist works fine.

Maybe you can find a pre first year production Winchester prototype with 16-inch twist.

Fast twists are fine in the proper setting.

I play around with 6 and even 4-inch twists.

But let's not mess with the Swift.

Next thing you know, people will be asking for large primer pockets in their 222 Remington Magnum brass or putting variable-power internally-adjustable scopes on their rifles.
