    110 action differences 338 Lapua and 300 WM ?

    Hi There,

Can't seem to get an answer to this, including from Savage Arms Customer Support (lady told me they do not give this info out...), so I figure I ask the true experts... I managed to find both model 111 actions at one of my local hunting stores, and there were no discernible length diffs...

Anyways, am just wondering if there is a length difference, or anything else, besides the fact that the Lapua .338 110 action has a closed top and ejection port (like the model 12 actions), in comparison to the 110 .300 WM action which has a completely open top, like the Mod 10 .308 action.

    Cheers!

...reason I ask is that I have access to a Mod 110 338 Lapua, but would like to ultimately re-barrel it for .30-06 or .280, and wondering if I can do that with only a change in bolt face. I assume it takes large shank barrels ?

Yes you will need to change regular bolt face. On shank size measure it. One of the prefit barrel companies have measurements they are. Cant recall who tho

...could try selling, though was thinking I could keep the 338 bits and have the option of shooting both... :) ...still wondering if it is indeed "officially" possible to do what I'm proposing ...? anyone ? Is the 338 LM action internal diameter larger and would it cause feeding issues for a .30-06 ?

Switching to the 30/06 requires only the bolt face and possibly a magazine box and follower. The lugs on the bolt head are thicker than the 30/06 bolt head. The LM receiver is a large shank.
This does not mean that you can change the bolt face on any old 30/06 and build a Lapua mag for those of you whose gears are turning.

Thank you Hotolds442 I had not thought of the mag... may indeed be more trouble than its worth, and should perhaps go the route danielFL suggested...

    Cheers!
