just fired my first group through a new 223 axis heavy barrel

24gr imr 4895 55gr win soft point 2.200 oal .7 moa, 5 shots and the last shot of the group was a flyer

this was the first 5 shots through a new rifle

all i did was a trigger job to bring the trigger down from 6# to 2.5#

i hope to shoot some .5 moa groups with this rifle tomorrow

I have a load that works in mine. It is with IMR3031 and 55gr V-Max.
I will have to dig out my log and get the details but I know it is on the lite end of the scale. My Edge/Axis doesn't like to go fast!

23 grains is what gave the best group for me.

My AXIS will not shot the 55gr at all! It hates them!

What I found it likes is Sierra 69gr HPBT Match with H4895 or CFE223 set .030 off the lands. Both powders makes one little hole!

I've had good results with Varget and Nosler 55gr Varmaggedon HP's but dismal results with Hornady's 60gr Vmax with the same powder. Seems like I had to work hard with lots of different variables to get the Vmax load to shoot at about an 1" where as, book COAL and basic load development went easily under an inch with the Noslers. I can't help liking a cheap bullet that shoots really well.

i have 2lbs of varget,400 casings,700 primers and the dealer ran out of projectiles.Baaahahahaha.waiting on order.

before they ran out though i played around with 4198 and made up 300 rounds of varying charges, all with 55gn v max or 55gn varmint sp.(that's all they had)
looking forward to testing the accuracy difference between loads as soon as the range is accessible.
would also like to use something a bit heavier, mainly looking for target accuracy more than anything else.

My axis likes 25 gr varget under 5o gr Hornady V-Max. Set back .015 from the lands. Hopefully target will appear. Top hole is a range shot next 9 are under the quarter.

Depends on if you want a light or heavy bullet load. What's your twist rate? I like H335 and CFE for my 223 loads, mostly light bullets though.

getting ready to load some 52 gr HPBT with CFE223, any pet loads for that powder? Probably load 50gr vmax also. My axis loves that bullet the best.

+1 for that load with H4895, it shoots just under 1/2 MOA at 200 yards in my varmint weight barreled Model 10.
