I am looking into parts for a build in 6.5x55. I came across a 1:8.5 twist brux blank and will probably get it in 24" varmint profile. Would the 8.5 twist be good for 100-140gr bullets and for the 140s in the match/vld?

Depends on how fast your are pushing them! Berger has a good twist calculator you can use their website. I ran the 140VLD's in an 26" 8 twist 6.5-06 and didn't see them tighten up until I got them around 2950fps or better. I think standard Ogive 140's will be fine though in an 8.5 for sure.

For the Swede, go with 1-8. Especially if you are going to use Bergers.
I would second WBM's suggestion to get the 1:8 twist. I have a Shaw 1:8 twist barrel that is accurate, (when I do my part) out to over 1000 yards with no difficulty. i have not shot it in a while, but I think that was with 140 A-Maxes. Rule of thumb for me is to go with faster, versus slower twist barrels, although I understand that there are situations when a slower twist may be more appropriate.
I have a 10 twist I mostly shoot they Sierra 107gr, they are a good balance between being light enough for some half decent velocity, and yet they still have an good BC, I can shoot 129s no problem but have never tried the 140s or 142s, I bet a 9 twist would stabilize them.

RUMs are like woman in Stiletto heals, you know they are going to put you in the poor house, but that has never stopped anyone from pursuing them.
I am going to order and wait for a 1:8 instead of the 8.5. Should I still be able to get good results with the lighter 100ish bullets or should I just leave the lighter stuff to a different rifle?
I've got a 8.5 twist Mcgowan and it shoots the 140's and 142's just fine.
