.308 is the parent case for .243.
what would be one of the easiest to make, and most efficiant or best round that i could go with forming 243 brass
.308 is the parent case for .243.
ok i want to shoot something made from 243 brass something easy to form or make wanting to shoot long range coyotes, paper, whatever. have thought of the 243 ai, but have also heard about soo many others out there. what do you guys shoot or think
22-243, 243AI, 22 midlestead are the first 3 that come to mind
.223 Rem AI, .22-250 AI, .220 Swift AI .243 Win AI, .6mm Rem AI, .257 Rob AI, .25-06 AI, 6.5x300wsm .30-06 AI, .270 STW, 7mm STW, 28 nosler, .416 Taylor
6mm CBX
Steve
how bad is the round count on a barrel for the 22-243 middlestead
and whats the cbx
no personal experiance with the 22-243 middstead but I imagine it would burn a barrel about like a 220 swift.
The CBX is a cartrige I designed and built, basically a 6-250 AI with a longer neck. Pushes a 107 seirra @3300 with good brass life and great accuracy.

steve can you pm me
Nice long neck on that CBX. Another good one seems to be the 6CM. I did some reading on it yesterday and it has the velocity of the 6XC but with better barrel life. As much as 3000+ rounds and still at 1/2MOA.
The 6CM is basically the same thing as the CBX. Only difference is the CBX has a 40deg shoulder and the CM Has a 30deg. The CM would be a better choice as it has dies and reamers available. The CBX you would have to have a reamer made(which doesnt cost any more if you have a print than a standard reamer) and you would have to have a sizing die reamer ground.
I used a 6-250 reamer ran deep and a seperate necking/throating reamer to cut my chamber. The sizing was done with a .243 AI die that I cut down but, it did not match the chamber well. so i had some sizing issues. Shot it in F-Class for a year and done well with it. I went back to the 6-250 AI for less trouble.
Steve
what rounds are there that i can make easily from the 243 case? i am wanting to stay with the 243 since i have about a 1000 pcs of brass
the other round i may be thinking of is a 6-284 tell me what you think
Dude, if ya got 1000 243 brass it's a no brainer-- 243AI.
You could do all kinds of things with 243 brass......just depends on how much work you're willing to do and how much you want to spend.
If you're wanting to keep the hides on a Kyote, the 22-243 Middlestead would be OutlawKyote's recommendation, and he knows of what he speaks.
Neck it up, neck it down, blow it out, push the shoulders back, or just a simple AI would be nice.
let's start to narrow it down, what is your favorite bullet caliber?
.223 Rem AI, .22-250 AI, .220 Swift AI .243 Win AI, .6mm Rem AI, .257 Rob AI, .25-06 AI, 6.5x300wsm .30-06 AI, .270 STW, 7mm STW, 28 nosler, .416 Taylor
i would like to do something in the 6mm or .224
am thinking of the
243ai
6cm
have kind of thought of
22-243
don't have brass for but thought of
6-284
The 6mm-.284 is based on the .284 Winchester case, .243 won't work. My current favorite on the .243 -.308 case is the .270/08 AI, .270 Winchester ballistics with 10 grains less powder in a short action. It is easily formed from .243 brass and so far has proved accurate and easy to load.Originally Posted by calib

the AI is easy, reamer and dies & a stock .243 barrel. but then a stock .223 barrel will make a .22-243 with the same requirements. The AI will last longer.
.223 Rem AI, .22-250 AI, .220 Swift AI .243 Win AI, .6mm Rem AI, .257 Rob AI, .25-06 AI, 6.5x300wsm .30-06 AI, .270 STW, 7mm STW, 28 nosler, .416 Taylor
bob t i do understand the 284 is not the 243 just was saying i had thought of that round but have no brass for it.
i am thinking i am going to go with the ackley
what is involved with making the 22-243
22-243 and the 22-243 Middlestead are 2 different cartridges.
22-243 is just a necked down 243.
The Middlestead has a 30* shoulder and maybe blown out a bit.
.22 cal barrel chambered for 243 brass. neck down the brass with the appropriate die to hold .224 bullets.

finding affordable dies might be hard.
.223 Rem AI, .22-250 AI, .220 Swift AI .243 Win AI, .6mm Rem AI, .257 Rob AI, .25-06 AI, 6.5x300wsm .30-06 AI, .270 STW, 7mm STW, 28 nosler, .416 Taylor
maybe for now ill just stick with the 243 ai
i want to push some 105's so am thinking of getting a 8 twist
how low do you guys think i could go with bullet weight wise?
Heres what I'm working on now.

for people that shoot the 243 ai what do you shoot( load, targets or animals, ranges, ect) tell me about your set up too please
does anyone shoot the 22-243, or a 6-284? maybe while i am at this build i may get some ideas for another
If I were you I would do the 243AI for now. Buy another action later and then start on your 6mm-284 or 6.5-284(my personal favorite that I will be hopefully starting on soon as I finish the current rifle build). Be careful though. Savage's make it all too easy to build a crap load of great shooting rifles vs the other brands, as there is so much that the gun owner can do themselves, without the need of a gunsmith.Originally Posted by calib
