    cheap axis

I was into Scheels yesterday and was looking to buy another axis. Been awhile since I've been there. Didn't see any of the cheap axis like they had before. Most were 350 to over 500. Wasn't we buying them for 299 with old cheapy scope. Sorry my mind is getting old and memory is clouded sometimes.

maybe i'm looking in the wrong place
    thanks

I don't know, were XPs ever that cheap? I know the non-XP, non-II Axises were $300 and under at some places, but, unless there was a promotion or advertized price including rebate, I don't recall the newer versions being at that price point.

MSRP on a basic Axis is $362 so there's no reason you shouldn't be able to shop around and find one for $310 or less. The Axis has a lower mark-up on it that Savage's other models so the discrepancy between the MSRP and street prices isn't as big as you'll find on their other models.

I paid 345.00 Canadian for an Axis XP last June and that included 12% sales tax. The cheapo scope retails on ebay for 40.00 with free shipping so that says a lot.

Bought my Savage Axis XP 270 at Palmetto Arms for 249.99 over the internet long around mid Jan….Same exact rifle same place is now 419….Bought the wife a 243 Axis II Muddy Girl with Accutrigger and Weaver for 374 at Buds….Does pay to look around on the web….I do wish I'd have sprung for the Axis II concerning the 270…Their mid 3's at Buds….Better scope and the Accu trigger of course…My 2 cents….Dave

……Theres a heavy barrel 243 Axis on there and Savage has a 50 dollar I believe, heavy barrel rebate on an Axis….Would that make make it 219….Maybe, you'd have to look in to it more " heavily"….Good luck…Dave

The Axis is $279 at Academy, but their selection seems to be going down. Fewer are showing on the website. My local gun shop sells the bare rifle for about $325 OTD.

I was in BassPro a few days ago looking at a 243 Axis with the camo stock, foofnik cheapo scope & skinny barrel. When I saw $429 on the price tag I handed it back to the counter attendant. I got the feeling that particular rifle was going to be on the rack for a long time.

Back to the pawn shops for me. Out of the 4 that I frequent there's always one floating around that needs a good home for under $250 - $275.
I'm in the market for another one as well and I just know there's an orphaned Axis out there waiting for me to rescue.

I've not seen any used Axises in my local stores. I suspect someone has been buying them out from under me.
