well short of lol


so for awhile now i been waiting to get something to play around the 800-1000 yard area. me being me im cheap lol. so i got lucky when i picked up a savage tactial flat back receiver with a heavy barrel in 300 winmag,
so i started to build it abit first i got a egw 20 moa base and a set of nightforce rings from the gunshow for cheap. then added a bit of weight to the rear of the rifle to balance the weight better and then added my scope,
so far i havnt shoot it yet but saturday i will,
just wanted to get your guys oppions on the setup so far, i know its not ideal but only having 450 bucks in everything i think im doing okay ,


savage 110 tactial heavy barrel $300
scope is a primary arms 4-16x44
rings are night force 30mm medium height
and egw one piece 20 moa base







so what i need help with i want to get a nicer stock with a detable bottom mag, but im not really sure what one i need, i know i have a long action with a blind mag right now,

Is it a center feed action? They convert to DM configuration pretty easy. If that's a factory "Tupperware stock", place your rifle on the front rest close to the front action screw so the flimsy forearm doesn't touch the barrel affecting grouping. I've strengthened a factory stock by filling in the voids in the barrel channel with plumber's epoxy putty sticks that have to be kneaded to activate the hardening process. I tamped it down level using a 1/2" dowel to make sure it didn't touch the barrel. The putty I used set up in 15 minutes rock hard and really stiffened the forearm. I used the putty all the way back to the recoil lug area as that area can flex if not strengthened. Good lookin rifle by the way.

If this action is flat back it's a SF and options are limited on DBM setups. One stock to consider would be a Bell & Carlson Medalist. You would definitely have to enlarge the barrel channel as the Medalist for SF LA Savages is for sporter barrels. Then send it to CDI for inlet for use with their 110 SF bottom metal which will allow you to use AI magazines or Accurate Mag magazines.

The bolt spacing is the same for LA's. (SF or CF)
You have a good start though as that rifle will probably shoot well like it is.

The 20MOA base might be too much to get dialed in at 100y. On a .300WM running match bullets you probably won't need it anyway depending on your scopes internal elevation.

yep its a flat back action, thats what i was thinking it would be kinda hard to find a nice stock for i that allows me to use the dbm

Why do you say that? I'm pretty sure every scope out there nowadays has enough total elevation to zero on a 20moa base. Heck, I'm getting ready to order a base that's at bare minimum 40moa, maybe 60moa, and should still be able to zero at 100.

EDIT: PA's site says 80moa total adjustment. Should be PLENTY.

To the OP...yes you have a great start for a long range rig...id suggest you add a break and not a bolt on. Any good machine shop can thread the barrel for a break...JP enterprises recoil eliminator is the best break ive used and what is on my 300. As for bullets go heavy...the 208g hornadys and 210SMKs is where id start and try the 208s first because they are much cheaper...I never had any luck with berger bullets in the factory barrel or the shilen thats on mine now no matter what combo I used.

I plan on it. Basically it'll depend on what glass I put on it and how much total elevation travel it has in it. I'm trying to work out all the details now. Barrel will be here soon, and I wanna get this thing together. A patient man, I am not. lol

From a 100y zero, my .308 used 40moa at 1000y and my .260AI used 28moa at 1k so the .300WM will be between those.

So, I doubt you will need a tapered base.
