SF Action to CF Stock Complete

Last week I asked if any one had installed SF action into CF stock with bottom metal. I decided I was going to find out.

DBM set up would not work without substantial modification to action. So I then thought the hinged floor plate design could possibly work.

So I ordered the parts from Savage. The complete HFP assembly was a little on the high side at $148 after shipping. But it was the only way to go.

Modifications to both bottom metal and SF box mag were needed. Both of which merely required either minor cutting or grinding.

The box mag on SF action could still be used as normal in SF stock if wanted. However, the CF HFP assembly has been modified past the point of using it for its original purpose.

The box mag fits right into the cutout in stock. The follower slides into place in bottom plate. It feeds basically the same as a SF would with a blind mag.

Is that a long or short action?
How did you find a number for the correct floorplate? The floorplte must be for a staggerfeed correct?

I have a 110 with a blind mag and i eould like to go to a floorplate if i can.

Its LA. I called Savage and gave them a s/n for a 116 270 with DBM bottom metal and simply told the rep that I wanted to convert to HFP. He looked up a Bear Hunter rifle and got the p/n's from that rifle. If you go to HFP, you need a new stock.

I've got the p/n's for everything I purchased. I'll post them.

Clint, That rifle really looks nice with the wood and stainless, I like it

I was looking to upgrade the stock anyway so that is not a big deal, I was under the impression that the centerfeed and stagger feed long actions had different spacing between the action screws, Is this not the case or did you modify something to account for this? Or is that a staggerfeed hinged floorplate? If I could get a floorplate like that into a boyds laminate I would be really happy, I like the rifle alot and it shoots well but I hate cycling the action at the end of the day to put it in the case

This was a custom job all the way. The bolt spacing is the same on Long Actions. I would recommend using any bottom metal, HFP or DBM with CF only. It's easier and probably better, especially if you buying parts to build. If you have a CF action you can order stock and then order either HFP or DBM bottom and be set to go.
