Feels solid. This is my 2nd savage rifle my first was my model 10fp tactical and the cheap plastic stock that came with it was a disgrace. I never could figure out why they sold their rifle with a crappy stock. So when I got the 338 with the hs stock I was alot happier with savage. I have already voiced my feelings about the recoil pad being glued on the stock??? I had a few more issues with the rifle out of the box. 1 the muzzle brake was about 45 degrees crooked on the barrel right out of the box. I fixed that myself with a wrench. I called savage and they said it was unusal to hear that issue and said they would track it back to the tech who did the work on it. 2nd issue is the forward most scope base screw not seating as far down as the rearward three. The customer service person said they must have not removed the gunk from the hole enough so the screw could seat farther down . After further inspection I figured out its made that way and the scope base is designed that way also. Customer service was more than willing to have me ship it back so they could address the issues.With a 6 to 8 week turn around time once they recieved it back. The muzzle break was fixed by me with twist of a wrench. And the scope base screw issue was not a mistake on there behalf but incorrect information from customer service person. Besides that im happy with the gun and cant wait to shoot it. My 10fp in 308 is only good out to 600 yards with moderate wind on a 16 inch steel target. 700 yards on a body target with light to no wind. Im hoping the 338 can produce the same results at its effective range of 1500 yards and body targets at 1800 that would make me very happy.
