Update:
Got some 155 Scenars to test. Was not the best conditions to test in, but was eager to see how they compared to the 175 SMK under same conditions.
So here is what I found out. All shots were done at 500 yards. I shot a pretty common 155 Scenar load and seated them at .010 variance just to start. Also shot the 175 SMK load that had worked well in another rifle. I chrono'd the rounds and got avg 2956 and ES 9.
Even in a 16 MPH wind that switched from full value from the right to behind me, the Scenar's loaded .030" jump shot about 1/2 size the group of the 175's. Guess that's what we are using next time out and see how they actually shoot in a match. Doing a 600 yard FT/R in a few weeks.
I did have the barrel looked at at there is some chatter on the lands. If I can get through the rest of the year w/ some decent results (or better than before) I will re-barrel over winter.
This is my son's gun and he is having a blast shooting in some matches. Just wish I would have looked into this earlier as I feel partly responsible for his performance with this rifle so far.
Thanks for the comments/feedback.
Update:
It was the bullet. Today my 15 year old son shot his best score ever so far w/ the new load. The vertical was great. He kicked my butt and once I get him a better bipod, hopefully scores even better.
Awesome, glad to hear that you've found a bullet that performs.
Your gun and load aside......
The thing you'll always remember is the time you spent with your boy.....
Happened with me what seems along time ago......
Just got scores today. He won 1st place Jr F/TR, which I knew he did well. What really shocked me was, he scored 4th overall in F/TR.
He shot a 571-10X off a Harris bipod.
I'm a proud Dad today!

LOL. How did the 300 Winchester mag on lane 5 sound in the pits?
It was Regan that shot the spotter. She got 21 Xs for the day. The guy next to us was shooting the 300 and he was not enjoying it.
Tempest, I was wondering what retical your son's Nightforce has and do you guys like it.
It's the CH2. Just a very fine reticle. I bought that one because I only planned on using it for 600 and 1,000 F/TR. He likes it a lot.
I felt bad last year when we first started this, we had a budget scope. He was being coached by a friend of mine and the guy says, now hold to the outside left side of the X ring. My son looks up and said, "Dad I can't even see the X ring, I'm just guessing where that is".
That made me buy a new scope. :)
