    Stole another rifle again today.......

Well I went back to Cabela's this afternoon looking to buy the Savage 111 LRH hunter they had in 300 win mag only to find it gone. I was looking at the heavy barreled Savage's and stumbled across a model 11 "prairie dog" version. They had them in both 223 and 22-250, both have a 22" barrel. They were all priced at $569 except for one 22-250 that somebody labeled incorrectly for $399.99. Needless to say it came home with me today, I'm not a really big fan of the shorter barrel, but it will be a nice carry gun if I don't shoot it from a rest all the time. I've gotta imagine it will have quite the fireball though. It does have a oversized bolt handle that will be getting swapped out in the near future.

I have one of those in .223 Rem. The barrel is length is not a problem and is actually the longest barrel I have. True .25" groups and have shot it to 900 yards with extreme consistency with 77 grn SMKs.
    More shooting, less typing.

You know, I've found some of my best deals at the Cabela's out by me. Seems like they always have a clearance Savage or two on the rack. It's getting to be were I'm afraid to go in, because I'll have to figure out what my next build will be with the new rifle I just bought.

You're as bad as me.....****, my wife breaks out in sweats with just the mention of me entering our Cabelas...the only advantage is I am a lefty, and deals are far less prevalent so I am less likely to drag something home on every trip....hahahah But that's how my 11THXP in 7-08 found it's way to my safe recently...LOL

Nice find. I picked up one here in 223 Rem. Upgrades I did included new stock, CDI bottom metal w/AI magazines, Talley Scopemount and SWFA SS 3-15X. Haven't got it out to the range yet, but very pleased with how it turned out.

A stock is also on my list, I'm not a fan of detachable magazines. I put Warne rings and a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14 mildot scope on this one.

I too found model 11 prairie dog at cabela's in waco and buda stores on sunday. Each store had both 223 and 22-250 in stock. I bought the 22-250 in waco for 399.99 plus tax. Price further reduced for a cc approval. $414 otd! This model appears to be identical to 12 FV, except for shorter barrel. Planning to change barrel and stock, and add scope. Leaning to tacticool, 6brx or 6x47L or 6 creedmoor, and weaver tactical. Savage got it right and i can be the gunsmith.

****** Both calibers at each store were $399.99 ******

    Stockrex:

Here are the pics I took while I was customizing the 12FV. I picked it up off Gun Broker for the sole purpose of shooting PD's last summer. It arrived with a POJ black plastic stock. the first stock was supposed to be dark red/brown/grey. When it arrived it was PINK, so I sent it back and got the camo. Cronologically scroll from top to bottom.

Modeling clay. Worked like a charm! I got the idea off this forum and after talking to my dad. I was really concerned that the BN would get locked up in the epoxy. I packed the recesses with clay and then waxed everything with the release agent. I used the blue liquid wax that came with the acra glass kit. I put a light coat of paste wax on the gun before I packed in the clay. When I took it all back apart, I cleaned the clay out of the BN with a sharpened Popsicle stick.

I colored the epoxy with the brown dye from the kit and some green/black Behlin furniture powder I use for furniture finishes. Works good for gunstocks too. :-)
