    Need help savage axis

Hey fellas, just come across the site. Have a few questions. My first bolt gun, but I come from 1911s and the ar platform and built many 10/22s.

I recently purchased an axis chambered in 308. I bought an unfinished boyds that I'm currently finishing.

It's coming along nicely, but still need to cut and clear a few more times.

My main problem is I'm wanting to build a nice supressed 308. When I bought my axis I didn't know of the sr with threaded barrel. I read somewhere I can buy this barrel as a direct replacement. Any truth to this?
    http://www.gunshack.com/barrels/sava...product_id=542

My second question is will that barrel fit n my boyds stock? Im talking width wise. Any help r advise will b appreciated.

It will fit, after you open up the barrel channel some. The new barrel will screw right onto your Axis action. **** that's awful purdy to go carving on so soon after finishing!

Unless you are committed to the McGowan barrel, it would probably be a lot easier to sell/trade the one you have for the Axis SR. Especially with all the work you have already put in on the stock (which looks great by the way). If the one you currently have is unfired, it should not be hard to get most if not all of your money back.

I ain't committed to the McGowan barrel, but at this point I am committed to the stock. Is there another barrel I can buy that will work without modifying the boyds?

That barrel should fit the channel in your stock, but I would contact Gunshack (they've been good to deal with for me) to confirm that it follows the same sporter profile as the standard savage (which I would guess it does).

You can have them flute one for the Axis, but when I last talked to them, they did not have any on the shelves. They only do fluting in batches, and my understanding is that they were running this week, so it may be a bit before they do it again. Email them to check (email is the best form of communication with them).

Man that stock looks like it was dipped in glass! I picked up a fact.S/R barrel from a guy on here ,for 15$ its worth it to become a paid member then you would have access to classifieds. Nice stock. Do you drag race?

Anyone know who makes a bolt handle for the axis? I literally can not find parts.

No one makes an aftermarket handle. You can have the factory one threaded for a new knob though.

Yes, I have seen photos of an axis with the SSS fluted bolt. When you order one from SSS, I presume you would need to specify that it is an Axis bolt because the bolt bodies are different. Now, go charge your phone.

Just a heads up. Forum rules are no sales outside of the classifieds, and only paid members can access the classifieds.
