Look at the many site sponsors we have. I think you would be happy with Northland shooters supply. Jim carries shilen barrels and probably has what you are looking for. Good luck with the build.
My son sold me his spare Savage large shank action with a 270WSM barrel on it and I want to turn it into a 6BR Norma bench rest gun. I would like to get a Shilen barrel because I have one on my extremely accurate Rem 700 but I thought it would be wise to check with Savage shooters on what would be a good choice for a match grade barrel. I would prefer not to have to wait six months to get a barrel (patience is not one of my virtues). Any opinions would be appreciated.

I have a 6BR Norma barrel I bought from Jim at NSS a few years ago and it is a real shooter. It was made by CBI and I have yet to hear of anyone being unhappy with CBI. Jim often stocks many CBI and Shilen barrels. Give him a call and see what he's got. If he doesn't have what you want in a Shilen I would not hesitate one second about buying a CBI if he has that in stock.

Thanks Stomp. Thanks Boots, I'll definitely give Jim a call.
You will have to change the bolt head to use the 6br barrel. The 6br uses a .473 bolt head. The 270WSM uses a .535 bolt head.

And in addition to the bolt head, since you have a WSM action and bolt head currently, when you switch your bolt head you will also have to change your firing pin to the standard setup or you may be able to get PT&G to make you a .473" bolt head with the thicker lugs of the WSM head so you can use your current firing pin.

I think he should just man up and build a wsm. Where your little remmy cap gun is dropping like a stone a wsm is just getting going lol.
Thanks Dennis. I knew I would have to replace the bolt head but I did not know the proper size. This helps a lot. Thanks

I just order a 28" 8 twist large shank stainless match barrel from McGowen outlet. It should ship on Monday.
Cool.

Hey old man 208 gr and load development dont mix at 100 yards. But I do recall last time at my range we hit clays at 1000 with mine and couldn't hit steel at 500 with yours
