Testing true on a 110 action

I have an older Savage 110 rifle that I rebarreled a long time ago. However it has never been a great shooting rifle. I'd now like to chamber it into something other than 30-06, but I want to make sure I'm not wasting my time putting a nice barrel on it.

Is there a way to test that the action is true? That is that I didn't somehow twist it while rebarreling it in my younger years? I have access to a lathe and such, but I'm not convinced that I would see anything if I were to turn it and run a dial indicator around the outside of the action. Does anyone know of any ways to check this?

    TIA,

    Ben

The easiest way to check it from the inside is a raceway gauge.
