Did Savage change the top bolt release sear ? I got a replacement from Savage and the bolt release portion is rounded in the front not pointed like my original. Also I had to readjust my safety screw. I hope I didn't get an overseas knock off. The portion I'm talking about you can see from the side with the action in the stock. I know they have changed them in the past, but I see no "improvement" in this one to justify a change. Anyone have a rounded one on their rifle ? I used to dremel a grove in the other style with the point and paint it red as a cocked indicator.

You need an account to host the images. Thats what most people can't seem to grasp. If you use yahoo email, you already have a service you can access. http://www.flickr.com/ If not, you can sign up for an account there. Then uploading your pictures to the web is straightforward enough. Once you can see them on Flickr (or other hosting service) then accessing the link to the picture just requires finding it in the "photostream" which is nothing more than a last to first collection of all the images you uploaded. One can get more sophisticated and arrange the pictures into "sets" but it is not technically needed in order to link a picture on a forum.
if you click on a picture in your photostream, it is displayed on a preview page. If you then right click on the image, it gives options for what size image you want to view, in my case 500 or 640 or "original". Usually 640 is enough for a forum. Click on 640 and it displays a slightly larger picture than before and now right click on that and select "copy image location". Then in your post, click on the green "insert picture" icon, delete the http:\\ that is in it and paste the link you just copied (control+V), then click OK. This forum does not display a realtime copy of the picture in the post while you are writing the mesage. Some other forums do. But you should see some text that says IMG your link address /IMG with some extra formatting. If you see that then the picture will display when you submit the post.

If you bought it direct from Savage, your OK.

No they are not. I don't have anything to take the pictures with. That's why pictures right now are out of the question. But I do thank you guys for offering to walk me through it.

I feel better about it now that I know that if it came from Savage, it's a genuine Savage part. Still not sure why they changed the shape.

Above is the only photo that is listed at Numrich. Does your sear look like that or different ? The various varmint and target rifles list a different sear but I have not found a picture for it anywhere.
Ok, the lowest "point" in that picture is what my old one looks like. My replacement does not have that pointed tip, it's rounded off. If that make sense ?
The lowest point is inconsequential. The actual sear is the part that is in the upper right area. The part lower left is just the operating lever. What exactly is your concern ? Did you fit it and it didn't work ? OEM's make "styling changes" without consulting us.
I know that. I was just "concerned" that because it was different from my original, it may have been an overseas knock off, that's all. I just thought maybe someone else had a rounded one on their rifle from the factory.

That sear has more or less been discontinued anyway since the new rifles have the bolt release button on the front of the trigger guard. Its probably only used on the model 12 now, but saying that I have not seen a brand new model 12 in a while and they may put the new trigger guard on them too.

Is this is what you are speaking of? The rounded corner is a new stamping, they are both mechanically the same, only cosmetically different.
