    Stock mercury recoil added

I spent most of the last week making my model 14 Monte Carlo stock lighter, down to just 25 ounces.

I have had a problem with my Creedmoor though, so bad I took it apart last May. The Stocky's heavy Varmint Thumbhole stock weighed 53.75 ounces with butt pad. With the Shilen select Match bull barrel with scope it was over 13 pounds.

The Creedmoor is SUPPOSED to be low recoil, yet after initially very small groups, I started flinching BAD. So I gave up on it for a while.

I just ordered the JP Enterprise Recoil Eliminator, that will cut 50-60% of the recoil. Should work great on the Creedmoor.

I have had a mercury recoil cylinder for 9 months, weighing 8.1 ounces the mercury sloshes around to reduce recoil.
So today I drilled the stock and added the mercury cylinder, new weight of 60.84 ounces.

Now I have to get the barrel threaded to 3/4 -28 TPI.

I shoot my 308 well because I have the JP Enterprise Bennie Cooley brake. The Recoil Eliminator should reduce recoil even more. If I flinch with all the goodies on it, I will need professional help.

I used to have one of those in my bt100 shotgun. Worked pretty good. I think I still have the 16oz one in the gun cabinet.

In my past I handled hundreds of pounds of instrument grade mercury, our power plant was run from instrument air and flow devices that floated iron on top of mercury.

Photos below are mostly of stock with original Savage barrel. Last photo of the Shilen barrel.

The hard part is the thumbhole stock has some curves that could come real close to the end of the mercury plug. Did a lot of checking before finally drilling.

The colors of the stock look great, everyone at the gun range would stop and look at the stock.

Photos are with the polymer DBM, going to add another 7 ounces by putting a polished stainless DBM and Trigger guard. Also added the big extended knob bolt handle in polished stainless, adds 2 ounces. I will need a gun bearer!

Will try bedding this time, never done it before.

I'm pretty sure all the mercury is out of our plant. I have seen some old fossil plants that have had tons of it in the relaying.
