Not because of the metal difference.
I was looking up barrels for the build im planning on doing and E.R Shaw has 4140 chrome moly steel barrels in any caliber for around $175 and then they have barrels in any caliber made out of 416 stainless steel for $265. If I where do go with the cheaper barrel would that effect my accuracy and groupings when im shooting compared to using a 416 stainless steel barrel?
Not because of the metal difference.
You'll need yo get the barrel painted, blued or Parkerized so it won't rust. Some of the best shooting rifles have CM barrels.
I don't think there are any real advantages to having a ss barrel. Not even corrosion resistance. In fact the opposite of what most people think.
I have never had a poorly cleaned stainless barrel rust up on me but I have ruined a 270 barrel when it got put up after being out in the damp air. Paint it clean it and oil it and the Chrome moly Barrel will be fine. I had some chamber issues with a 260 E.R.Shaw once but a 7mm08 was the best barrel I ever had.
My ER Shaw, cm, heavy varmint, barrel in 260 Rem. is the best barrel I have ever had! ;-)
Thanks for the info guys. Im probably going to get duracoat in a can and go that route for rust prevention.
I had my ER Shaw cm barrel and Stevens action Duracoated several years ago. Well worth the investment.
