Don't have a cow.....The Trophy Hunters and other low end rifles now use the 1 pc. firing pin and 3 pc. spring arrangement that started out on the Axis/Edge rifles.
The original Edge rifles used a single spring with a tail on it to lock the cocking piece pin in place. The problem was the opposite end rubs hard on the inside of the bolt assembly screw that it would "unwind" the spring, creating torque that would actually lift the bolt.
The solution was to make the spring in 3 parts: the forward spring had the tail for licking the pin, then there was a single ring to act as a bearing, and finally the rear spring that was wound in the opposite direction.
From the way it sounds, you have lost the middle ring.
