    6.5 x 47 Lapua

Looking at building a 6.5 x47 Lapua on a Savage Dual Port thinking its going to be a 30 inch palma barrel fluted. Looking at 140 gr Berger VLD's my question is anyone have any sugestions on twist rate and brand of barrel? thinking Kriger any input is appreciated

FWIW, My best experience with my 6.5x47 is using 123grn Lapua Scenars. My 6.5x284 loves the 140 and 142's.

123 grain in the 6.5x47 are good out to 1k yards.

Again, just my opinion. Erik Cortina with Team Lapua USA loves the 139 Scenars in his 6.5x47. I just never could get them to work, plus the 123's spoiled me.

140 bergers and an 8 twist barrel. The bergers offer the best b.c. of any 6.5 bullet out there. Any name brand match grade barrel will work great. Krieger makes an excellent barrel. Might want to look at CBI barrels as well as they are made by Krieger and Jim at northland may have what you want on the shelf.

    FYI,

Criterion Barrels, Inc. was founded in 1999 as a division of Krieger Barrels, Inc. in response to demands of rifle builders and firearms manufacturers for quality match grade barrels at a lower cost. Our company is now completely independent from Krieger Barrels, featuring a separate facility, personnel, and ownership.

Erik doesn't own grizzly tool. I know he is in the concrete business. that's the extent of my knowledge.

A 6.5x47 Lapua is a good cartridge, and it can produce performance similar to a 6.5x284. If you haven't done so you may want to look at the necked down version the 6x47 Lapua. 6 mm has a Great bullet selection, with high BC, and the cartridge preforms extremely well. Either case I would discourage you from a 30 inch barrel, they only cost more, and there come a point where a barrel will not pick up any velocity, but will actually loose velocity, as well as other problems. Krieger makes great barrels, and all I can say is if you want one be prepared to wait, last time I check it was 20 months wait for a Krieger. Honestly all of the premium barrels are all on par with each other. You stand a chance of getting a good or a bad barrel no matter what the brand is it is the luck of the draw, but good news is your chances of getting a bad barrel are on the slim side of things.

Berger says 8 twist. I have a Krieger barrel with 5R rifling on order for my 6.5X47 Lapua project.

looked at the 6x47 still wanting to go with a 6.5x47 Lapua though I was curious what length you and other people recommend and what brands shoot the best, this is my first REAL project gun I want to start doing 600 and 1000 yard shoots so any tips from the masters are well appreciated!!!!!

If this project goes well I already have plans for a new wildcat 20-220 swift AI speed freak
