I am considering a re-build project for my Stevens 200 25-06. (current barrel has issues and needs to be replaced) I also have a couple hundred 8x57 new rem brass. My thought was to re barrel my 200 with a custom cut 8x57 ER Shaw barrel. (I like to be about 10-15 degrees off the norm) Has anybody done anything like this. I'm looking to build a deer rifle with ~ moderate recoil [read non-heavy magnum], that I can "load up" for my someday Elk hunt.....Yes, 30-06 is the obvious choice, but I want something few others have done, I have always danced to the beat of a slightly different drum.

Thank you for your input on this decision.
