    Axis .243 to .260

Ok so here is what i have. Ive got a savage axis in .243 that i want to rebarrel to .260 rem. ive read alot of the other conversions that people have done on here and i just want to make sure im clear on what i need. From what i gathered i just need to make sure the barrel is a 110 small shank in .260 and it will thread onto my axis? I know j need headspaci g gauges and all that as well. Do i need to turn the face of the reciever down too or no? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Same bolt face in 243/260. It's easy and can be done in under 15 minutes with minimum tools. I don't post as often as the regs on here, but I'm pretty sure most will advise you to use your search feature.

Also, there are a bunch of youtube vids showing you what you need to do. I know it's "scary" the first time, but it's really very simple. Don't over think things and just do it.

As Aubie says, it is easy, but scary the first time. I only buy a go-gage and add a layer of Scotch tape to the base for a no-go- call me cheap. One thing to consider is the profile of the .260 barrel. The factory stock is very narrow in the forearm and a varmint/bull contour will require a lot of plastic removed. A factory contour barrel will fit nicely. The Axis uses standard shank barrels. Do you have the tools to remove the factory stock?

Recommend one of the SSS stocks if you really want to build for accuracy. I built my 308 first on he Pro Hunter and have since dropped it into the new soon to hit the market Pro Tac stock. They are solid and made all the improvements that were required to make the Axis a highly competitive project rifle!

Aubie515 thank you for the info. I have looked around for a while now to make sure i will have everything i need. Im not too scared because i work at a machine shop and somewhat mechiniclly inclined, and tinker with gun all the time. My concern was the shank size. I had emailed e r shaw about their kits ive seen and they told me they will not fit the axis/edge. The kits are the standard shank according to the info.

I spun a McGowan small shank on without issue. The Axis is a standard small shank like the model 10.

Lhitchcox. Yes i do have all the tools to remove the stock. And ive milled out plastic jaws for my vise to hold the reciever and made myself the barrel nut wrench out of hardened steel too. All i need is a standard shank 260 barrel factory contour and a go/no go gauges and ill have my 260. Finally. Wanted a 260 for a while now. I cant wait. Any reccMendations on where to get a barrel from that i dont have to wait a long time for?
