I can't understand how some small calibers are so costly while the HUGE 300 win mag is so cheap--I see a bright future ahead for me and this caliber : )

Supply and demand. Most shooters are shooting the 308/30-06 families of cartridges for hunting. As such those calibers are sometimes more expensive than the 300 win mag.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
Read the other day, an infamous gunsmith stated......"I KNOW which calibers I will be chambering everything in from now on...just because of ammo availability. 280 Remington & 7 Mag - these are the ONLY calibers available EVERYWHERE!"
