I run they exact same loads when using RL15 as Varget and it works out fine, I hover around 38-39 and 40gr of either.

I use Varget in my 22 250. loaded some with rl 15 just for kicks, and shot great at 100 yds, right with the varget loads. We went to shoot at 1/4 mile the other day and the 15 shot 10 inches higher than Varget. Don't know, maybe because of the heat. Didn't try it at a 100 again yet.

I was shooting 35.0gr of varget under the 55 V-Max and it shot great. Back around 2008 when varget got scarce I switched to RL15 for a time. Shot 34.0gr and then went to 35.0gr and it matched Varget, even same POA. Problem I had was, it was 60 degrees out when I did that load and was great. Shot it again when it was in the upper 90's and all of a sudden it started popping primers out. Had to back off to 34.0gr. Varget I had worked up past 37.0 but had the best accuracy at 35.0 so that's where I stayed but RL15 couldn't go nearly that high. Other calibers and even other barrels in 22-250 I could work up RL15 the same as Varget, but not that one.

Point of all that is that I was getting pressure signs much earlier with the RL15, so I would not use it as a direct substitute for Varget. Work up your load same as you should with any new powder, but RL15 is a great and accurate substitute.

My Model 12 LRPV with a 1:12 twist factory barrel shoots the best with 34.5g of RL-15 with 50-52g bullets. It isn't the fastest, but this load yields the smallest groups. Average group size is .35" to .4" on a calm day. Smallest is .19".

For those shooting Varget and Reloader 15 in the 22-250 it seems to me that AR-Comp powder from Alliant should be a logical choice in the 22-250. AR-Comp is supposed to be a "reformulated" RL-15 without the temperature sensitivity of the former. However, real world testing indicates that the burn rate of AR-Comp is closer to Varget than RL-15 hence the moniker "Swedish Varget". Reviewing on line load data from 22-250 shooters, I found that most consider it a very good powder in that caliber. Several report low ES and SD and clean burning. I plan on giving it a try with 55-68gr bullets this week.

RL-15 is much more temp sensitive than varget. I can get swings of 100 fps or more in hot days. This is one of the reasons I moved away from it when possible.
