    2 hogs with the 223

There's been a debate on if a 223 is enough gun for hogs. I went solo tonight so I decided to bring my ar. Alot easer when your holding a light driving a 4 wheeler and shooting. Anyway one was about 130 yds and the other was about 175. Shot both shoulder shots with exits. Used a 55 gr barnes ttsx. Nether hog took a step.

That is awesome! Nice pigs. How big is the one one your right (I assume a boar)? I use 64 gr Power Shok's on deer with good results (under 50 yard shots). I have always wondered how effective .223 is on medium game at longer ranges. I have to admit that I'm surprised you had pass through shots at that range on pigs. Thanks for the info. It gives me even more confidence in the effectiveness of my AR.

    Nice shooting!

While the 223 does sometimes work, I still prefer something a bit larger. I haven't taken an AR out for hogs yet, but I've always been tempted.

There are a lot of people around here that kill a bunch of pigs with .223 mostly ar's. I would shoot them with the .223 if I didn't use my .308

I like my creedmoor. Its a model 16 but its hard to get more than one shot off with a bolt action when your holding the light and shooting. I've killed a good many hogs with my ar just haven't put them on here because of it not being a savage. Mainly wanted show what the little barnes will do.

I have wanted to get out on a group of pigs at long range and see how many I can kill before they scatter, how far, and if I can get closer and get more if I had a suppressor also.....maybe next weekend I'll try

I have no love for hogs, but shooting rapidly at scattering pigs sounds like a recipe for a lot of coyote food as they wander off wounded and die.

Don't spray bullets. I take alot of pride in being precise and accurate. Lots of cattle around where I hunt, would be bad to hit one. Im not gona say I've never made a bad shot but do my best to make them all as perfect as I can. Anyone that goes along with us to shoot and misses alot or does something stupid don't get invited back. The land owner wants them dead not scattered.

The goal is one shot, one kill. Short of that, you don't some kid getting hurt tomorrow by a gut shot pig.

I've dropped a few pigs with my Bushmaster. They drop quick when you pop that tater! I did have to take a couple follow up shots (Glock 23) to the dome to make them stop squirming.

Wish we could use our AR's here to hunt.Even it was only for varmints and predators would be great. Thought maybe we had a chance about a year ago but with todays' gun climate we'll probably never see it.

Would like to know more about shot placement on the hogs you got. Wouldn't mind loading the mini 14 with some tsx's to get rid of some nuisance hogs as well.

The two I popped with the AR was from a tree stand. One was quartering towards me and he got one shot between the eye and ear. The other was almost broadside and he got one just above the ear. I'm pretty sure they were with a 55gr Federal TRU soft point.

Yea jb6.5 stated he shot in shoulder area with the TSX's and got total penetration, so that was what I was wondering about, specifically the TSX.
