    300 wsm

My lgs has a package gun on close out for $499 and its a 300 wsm. Being that caliber I assume its a short action large shank with controlled round feed correct? I am kinda looking for a long action, but provided I went with this rifle would the controlled round feed cause a problem with changing calibers because of the bolt head/ magazine configuration? Also what stock would it use?

Savage stopped offering controlled round feed when they made the switch to center-feed magazines back in 2006/2007. Otherwise it's your standard everyday center-feed Savage short action with 4.40" screw spacing and a heavy magnum bolt head/baffle (baffle is specific to this bolt head so both must be changed when changing to say .223 or .308).

That of course is assuming it's a recent production rifle and not one that's been sitting on a dealers shelf for the last 8+ years.

Thanks for the info. Glad I asked as it seems I was wrong on all my assumptions.
