    How hot is too hot?

Just wondering, I have a 22-250 with varmint barrel and when sighting in and shooting how hot is too hot for the barrel to get? How many shots in what period of time is reasonable? I'm running nosler varmeggedin 40 grainers with 38 grains of AR 2208/varget. (I think varget is the US equivalent?)
    Thanks

the simple answer is if it is to hot to hold it is too hot. as long as you can lay the barrel on the back of your hand and not burn it (or think you will burn it) it should be fine to continue firing. you can get hotter than that but it is a safe way to figure it.
