    25-06

I found a Savage 25--06 at the local store and have been considering it, accutrigger with a hardwood stock, probably a staggered feed for $300. I know nothing about this round. Ballistically it seems like it would be great for large deer and elk and loaded down for a varmint round, maybe a bit big for that, but I ain't eating it.

How are these rounds for accuracy? I will not put up with inherent inaccuracy.
    Do these burn out barrels?

    Thanks.

The 25-06 is a very good deer rifle, I don't know about elk as I've never hunted them my self. But the accuracy is very good out of my oldest son 25-06, Just over 2" group at 400yds With a good load of h4350. But I don't think the barrel would last if you where shooting pdogs with it. I've seen guys useing them for coyotes and are pretty happy with them. You sure can't go wrong for $300., Is this a new or used gun?

Those that choose a 25-06 never regret it. Beyond a doubt my favorite round. perfect for deer and varmints. For elk it is a little on the light side but will get the job done.

I have a couple of friends that shoot them and they swear by them for whitetail rifles. They say they shoot flat and are accurate. The only gripe I hear is the cost of the ammo compared to similar calibers.

The 25-06 is a great all around caliber. Accurate, flat shooting, and instant death on deer. And with the lighter bullets it makes a good varmint gun. If you buy it, i'd say you'll like it. Especially at that price.

Flat shooting, moderate recoil, easy to reload for, whats not to like.

Someday down the road you may want to put an aftermarket 26" barrel on it to squeeze all of the performance that you can get out of it. And while you are at it, you had just as well get it Ackley Improved so you can really make it whistle.

If you reload, get some RL 22 and 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips.

many years ago i hunted ground hogs 2 x a week, i was not married at the time, i would shoot ground hogs on a regular basis between 300-600yards not a problem 25.06 while the gun was not a savage it is just what the gun shop that i worked at sold at the time. i later sold that gun regretfully because i needed money as far as i know he still has it. a couple of years ago i bought a savage package gun 25.06 and it hold a 3/4 " group a 100 yards 115 winchester silver ballistic tip ammo, since i bought 3 boxes of this new hornady super performance 117 sst i have not shot that yet, but it has good reviews. also i just bought a 25.06 in a vlp from northlander here on savage talk waiting on funds for a scope and mounts. to sum it up just like the other fellow said once you get a 25.06 you won't regret it and you will never look back.

Never had a quarter bore so I picked up a new Stevens. New bolt handle, metal trigger guard, weaver bases, burris rings and Nikon BM 4.5-14. Put some duracoat on the wonderful stock.

I've only put about 20 rounds through her so far. Doing a little break in and working up a load with Sierra 75g HP's and H4350. This is one group from the first test....haven't even begun to tweak things! Two in one hole and I pushed the 3rd just low.

Sweet. I think I will pick it up. First thing to do is buy a better stock.

I would jump on it if it was in front of me. You cant have too many 1/4 bores. I only have 4 now so 5 would be closer to one for each day of the week.
