    Model 116 center trigger conversion.

Figured I would post what I was doing in the appropriate part of the forum. Over three months ago, I told a buddy I was going to convert my model 116 to a center trigger to use as a hunting "pistol" for when I move back to Alaska. He laughed as others did, but I keep going. Before you yell NFA, the gun is 26.5" without the brake, and the barrel is over 16". Still considered a rifle by the ATF.
    From the build:

    Made the Trigger
    Made the link system
Put on the 308 17" mcgowen barrel and muscle brake
    Made the stock
    Weaver 2.5-8x28
    weaver long action base
    leupold rings.

Going to punch some holes in paper tomorrow.

It was cold and windy today, but got some range time in. Here are a few of my three shot groups. Did five test loads, with two three shot groups each. Varget and 168 vld's,

    Cool. How's the recoil?
Life is short, make every shot count.

There is no real backwards recoil. The gun does jump straight up about an inch, but I think that it's from being pretty light. As for the trigger, I would say its around 3 to 6 pounds. With the lever system, it should be a 1 to 1 transfer and with ! trigger set to 4 pounds, it should be the same on the other side.

You have done a great job here, and I agree with another post in one of your threads, there is nothing wrong at all with your work.
I have a 338 Win Mag barrel that I have been sitting on for a bit now, and a striker mag and trigger group. I been thinking about using everything to build a long action rifle that is center grip, and over 26", and a barrel of at least 17".
Again, great work, and keep us posted, a 338 RUM sounds interesting, although I would look at a 338-375 Ruger.

Great Job !!!! You are going to have Topstrap drooling. LOL Was thinking of doing one of these eventually just for the hell of it using a Stevens 200 action in 30-06. Post some pix of the trigger bar set up if you would please.

There is just something about shooting a center grip that makes it more fun than a rifle. Can't explain it, but I will be making another. I want to get my hands on an undesignated target action and build a 6mm br and 7 wsm later down the road. 338 win should be a nice round all around hunting gun. If you can do it, do it.

It's crued, but it works. Wish I had a milling machine to do my work, but you know how it goes when you have to move every three to four years. I remade the trigger to be slimmer since that pic.

Cool !!! That muzzle brake does the job nicely. My next project will be a rear grip in 270 Win built from a used Stevens 200 I have my eye on. Swap out the spaghetti factory barrel and put a 20 " Bull barrel on it. Would still be classed as a rifle legally (18 1/2 and 26 OAL) where I live.
