Savage 22.250 twist rates?

A friend of mine was looking for a fast twist 22.250 so I pointed him toward the Savage website were he found this:

Model: 12 VLP DBM
Series: 12 Varmint AccuTrigger: Yes
Sights: Drilled and tapped for scope mounts AccuStock : No
Magazine: Detachable box Stock material: Wood Laminate
Barrel material: Stainless Steel Stock finish: Satin
Barrel finish: High Luster Stock color: Natural
Barrel color: Natural Action: Short

18468 22-250 REM 1 in 9" 26" 46.25" 10 lbs 4 $1021.00
18469 22-250 REM 1 in 12" 26" 46.25" 10 lbs 4 $1021.00

Imagine my surprise when he told me there are none made, that he called Savage and they told him that the website was in error and that all the Savage 22.250's have 1:14 twist.

I thought that the faster twist was available previously. If Savage knows that the website is wrong, why don't they fix it? Their IT guy should be able to do it in 5 minutes.

Savage does has fast twist 22/250's It may not be in the VLP line, but they did offer it in the LRPV line. (but they used large shank barrel.) The typo on the VLP may be for a 223.

What they need to fix is the guy who gives out false information.

Yes, Their staff needs to have better info ..........

Wrong on both accounts... They don't even offer a 1-14"............. Just 1-12" and 1-9" chambered for 22-250.

Last Dec a new shooter wanted the biggest bang for his buck as far as a nice accurate varmint rifle.
So.........
VLP 22-250 9 twist.....

I said ya cant go wrong here...
He got it and I'll just say 1/2 MOA @ 100yds with a 69gr Sierra and Varget. Just found that it REALLY shoots 60gr Berger Varmint match to < 1/2 and totally factory un touched (no bedding).

Highly Recommended,

Re: Savage 22.250 twist rates?

The rate of twist is to achieve enough RPM to stabilize the bullet. There are times when a bullet will work in a twist that is thought to be too slow, all you have to do is get the velocity (and hence the RPM) up enough to get more spin. YMMV

LRPV is available in 9 or 12 (22-250) or 9 & 7 (223).

Re: Savage 22.250 twist rates?

Frank, the info on the site IS correct. The guy he spoke with at Savage was dead wrong. I have owned both twists in the VLP line. Unless for some stupid reason they have just changed it, but I was at my local dealer this morning and he had a 9twist 22-250 sitting there.

They used to have a 14twist 22-250, but that was in the older Varminter model and I believe the early BVSS's.
