It has been done many times in the past, with great success, with the small amount of difference in they amount of meat there is between, a small and a large shank, sometimes I wonder why they even bothered why they made both.

I'm a little behind the curve on this one. I'm going to get a switch barrel going on a short action Savage and was wondering how far I could push it?
Midway has mag followers and bolt heads for the WSM. I was wondering if I could make this an elk rifle (magnum) too.
Thanks.

RUMs are like woman in Stiletto heals, you know they are going to put you in the poor house, but that has never stopped anyone from pursuing them.
I've built several, and some RUM's including a couple 338 Edge on small shank. No worries.
IMHO, the worry should begin with with the Lapua/big Weatherby sized case heads.

You've put me well on my way.
This should be fun!
