Gun Shack can order the stuff. Obviously a magazine, but a bolt travel stop (I think Savage calls them buffers?) might be needed.

A long action 223 bolt head is tough to find.

SSS sells the parts needed to make it work with a short action bolt head.

    Huh??
Bolt heads are bolt heads. I have swapped "long to short" and vice verse many many times.
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

I don't see how. I long action bolt head won't even work in a short action bolt. The tail is long enough to keep the firing pin from reaching the primer. A short action bolt head in a long action bolt is dangerous. It allows too much firing pin protrusion which causes pierced primers.

Long and short bolt heads are different and are not interchangeable.
