Can a .223 Bolt Head/barrel be used with a Savage LA?

I need some technical help from someone who might have already tried/done this particular bolt head swap.

Can I replace a bolt head/face (.473") (25-06, 270, 30-06) with a .223 bolt head (.378") on a long action Savage bolt? Can it safely be used in a Savage 111 action, center feed with a properly headspaced .223/.204 barrel? I would use with a single shot follower, so magazine function is not a concern. Thanks for any guidance.

    JP,

SSS sells an adapter that goes on the firing pin in the bolt body that allows you to use the 0.378 bolt head on a std LA bolt. I have two of them and they work perfect. Call Lisa at SSS and tell her what you want to do. She knows the part. Go to the Home page of Savage Shooters and look at the technicial articles tab on the left. At the bottom is a good step by step on swaping the bolt head.

    Luck, Tim

Thanks for the reply. I'll give SSS a call.
