    Can it be done??

I currently have a 93R17 with the walnut stock. I am thinking that I want to get out of the .17 and replace it with a .22LR. I love the model 93 and I found the Dick's Sporting Goods version of the 93 in 22LR. Problem is, the Dick's gun comes with an OD Green tupperware stock, which I do not like. Can anyone tell me if I can buy the .22 from Dicks and put the .22 in the walnut stock that the .17 was in? I assume the bottom metal may be a little different? Has anybody tried this?

The inlet is the same, but there are about 6 versions of the bottom metal.

I want to down grade because of the price of .17 ammo is eating me out of house and home. I can shoot my .223 for cheaper than my rimfire .17. I was about to settle on a mark II when I saw that Dick's Sporting Goods (Apparently Savage makes it just for them) has the model 93 in 22LR. Only problem is the plastic stock, which I just cant abide. I guess I'll just move up to the mark II.

I was just reading on another forum where a guy is buying his 223 ammo in a case of 1000. Cost was $299, that is $15 for 50. I agree with him, the 22LR is more fun to shoot and a LOT cheaper, and more versatile in my mind. I had the heavy barrels 17, and I now have the sporter barrel 93 in WMR. There is no comparison in range and power, but the 22 bolt gun I have is WAY more versatile. From the same magazine I can feed it short, long and or long rifle. The barrel is 21.5" long and those shorts just make a small pop. Tons more fun. Tons cheaper.

The HMR and WMR are great in their element, but their element isn't cheap.

I can SURELY reload my 223 for WAY less than anyone can buy ANY 17 HMR ammo. In fact I bought a pound of powder (Trailboss) that will basically duplicate the WMR ballistics from the 223, and still be cheaper to shoot.

I know it is a little more cost but I wouldn't tear appart the 93 I would buy the Dick's model and just buy a Boyds stock for the Mark II. If I could afford it, sorry I can't awnser the stock exchange question.

Yea, I think I'm coming to the same conclusion. I'm just going to buy the dick's .22 and re-stock it later.
I see that Boyd's and Stocky's offer nice aftermarket stocks for the 93 with all it's varieties of different bottom metal. When I said I could shoot the .223 cheaper than the .17 I should have said reloads. I'm just going to have to figure out how to sneak another gun into the house.... lol
