Lapping the barrel threads, who has done it and how?

In the thread about barrels and the Houston warehouse target shooting. The interviewee talks about lapping in the barrel threads for maximum contact, it makes sense but how do you do it.

Read as much as u can about acme mod acme,rounded roots troughs ,then depending on how ur barrel attaches to rec.dont worry about it ,back to VAUGHN S BOOK it is great reading.Some thread design get weakerwith heat and othersget more rigid.

I will add to that qoate, the Houston warehouse project took place starting sometime around 1975 and ran untill it stoped in 1983. The article that everyone goes to was in precision shooting in 1993. Now lets look at this as this, first it is 2012, and powder, metal, gun design, brass meturology, scopes, and just about everything else are far better, and more consistant. The Hoston warehouse findings mostly deals with the PPC round, (22 PPC, majority, some of the 6 PPC.) and these finding tailored to (100-300 yard) benchrest shooting.

With that said, Yes the Houston warehouse is an interesting read, and as I have said it is history, but it must be taken into context for what it is worth, they was dealing with the equipement that they had avaible at the time, and using it for 1 intended purpose. What you will find is that the improvements was so small it could only be noted in the special envoirment, with the special equipement they used and had availble. In a nut shell the Houston warehouse story, is best left as entertaiment like reading harry potter, and not looked at as a guide to ultimate accuracy. The information is worth what you have paid for it.

If you would like to read some books that will provide current information on shooting, and accuracy gains dealing with benchrest then I susgest Mike Ratigan's book "Extreme Rifle Accuracy" or Tony Boyer's book "The Book of rifle Accuracy" or last and one of my Favorites Glenn Newick's book "Ultimate in Rifle Accuracy" These three book mostly pretain to 100-300 yard benrest shooting, and dealing with the 6 PPC, but there is a ton of current usefull infomation pertaining to accuracy shooting, and dealing with loading ammo, and other equipement issues. These three gentelmen have set the benchrest world on fire, and are higly creditable.

If you like history, and what to see what benchrest shooting was back in the day (Around the period of the Hoston warehouse project.) and old findings I recamend Warren page's book "The Accurate Rifle" Lots of information in this book used in the other three aformentioned books. The information is highly dated and antique, but it is an interesting read.

You may also want to buy Precision Shoting's Benchrest Shooting Primer, This book is years of articles from Precision shooting magazine. some of it is dated, and is a good read, and some of it is current. Some of it is even previews to glen Newick's book. (I have all the aformentioned books in my library, and susgest any shooter to have them also.)
