1st post, 300 BLK for 110 Build Question

    1st post here, nice forum.
So I am wanting to build up a 300 BLK bolt gun on a 110 action. As a preface, this is to be a suppressor only fun gun for range use and to work up decent loads for my AR's in this caliber. I'm not using it to hunt or have any tactical operator fantasies about being the warlord on my block when the world ends, just a fun range toy. Next, I've built a few AK's and AR's and am comfortable checking headspace and have a firm understanding of the various issues of basic firearm assembly. The barrel swap and headspacing looks easy and straightforward, but I do have a few other questions. Hopefully these aren't stupid questions, if they are I apologize in advance.

    What I have so far:
Savage 110FP .223 Tactical, looks like it had less than 100 rounds through it, bought used for $450 at a local shop. This is a bull barrel with a blind magazine that I think is a staggered feed.
ER Shaw barrel small shank, standard contour Gun Shack Group Buy barrel (waiting)
    Wheeler Barrel vise
    Wheeler nut wrench (backordered)
Pacific Go and No-Go gauges ordered

    My questions:
Will I need a new stock to accommodate the thinner barrel?
Could a new stock and detachable magazine system be used?
Would this stock work ? http://www.midwayusa.com/product/623...tic-olive-drab
Will I need a new barrel nut and recoil nut for a new barrel?
Are there any other tools, parts or things I am missing?

Any tips, tricks and advise is welcome. Thanks you!

Here is the rifle as it sits. I already fitted it with a bipod and Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 Tactical.

As far as your current stock not working due to the large barrel channel. Here is something to put it into perspective...

    1) Going thinner barrel no, it's if you go heavier that stock can be an issue.
    2) Yes
    3) Yes but go with this one: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/421...omposite-black There really are no good budget options for the 110. The Choate's are mediocre but what I'm using for my build because manners or mcmillian outta budget. If this is to go with #2- It may be worth checking if Tacticalworks will do their package with the 110 stock that they list for the 10:
    http://www.tacticalworks.com/Savage-....-Package.html
    4) Need- no. But aftermarket ones aren't that much $$ and alot feel are worth the upgrade (at least on the recoil lug)
    5) don't know what tools you have so no idea

Re: 1st post, 300 BLK for 110 Build Question

Why is the one Choate better than the other? As dumb as it might sound, I'm leaning toward the thumbhole for the adjustable cheekpiece and distinctive appearance. This rig is a fun gun/range conversation piece. At least I can use the factory stock until I decide.

The mag feed options are out due to cost. I can just do a quiet mag dump in a 300 AR if I get the itch.

I found the one stock shown, the Knoxx Axiom. Looks cool, but spendy and the 300 doesn't need help with recoil.

Thanks for the replies so far!
