The action screws are 1/4" so go as small as you can on the ID of the pillars. Less "wiggle room" when the action is mounted in the stock.
And maybe just a little more space at the tang. All you need is a little daylight between the stock and tang.
so i read what i could find on action bedding using the search feature. but i still have a few questions.
1. how much room do you need around the pillars?
i was going to use a 3/8 in o.d. tubing, would a 7/16 hole be large enough ? if not, what size?
2. when i float the rear tang would two pcs. of masking be ok? or should i go more
also would like to say that this is a great forum full of helpful information and members. i'm glad i joined :)

Oz never gave nothing to the Tin Man, that he didn't already have.
No scientific answer, but I mount the pillars to the action, tape up the tang and the barrel so it sits level, and insert into stock. When it can do that with no binding, I'm ready to bed.

.030-.040" over the tube size is sufficient.
