    texas hillcountry axis buck

Finally.got a chance at a nice axis buck ive seen on my game cam the last month or so. He dressed out at 145 lbs and i got him w my savage 12fv with a new 223 AI barrel from gunshack on the group buy. Im pushing a 55 gr softnose bullet 3500+ and shot him at about 120 yrds. For reference my barrel is 26" long. he will be hanging on my wall soon. Enjoy.

Nice deer. I would rather eat axis than whitetail deer any day.

That brings up a good question. How does Axis deer differ in taste from whitetail?

They r a lot bigger than the whitetails in most areas and since they can the same stuff as cows in addition to whitetail food sources.....they taste way better. They have no gamey taste at all like some of the bigger whitetails bucks can have during the rut.

That is a BEAUTIFUL specimen right there!!!! My two boys are lusting, too!

I really like the look of that stainless barrel/CM receiver/SS bolt handle. Whose handle is that? I need to gets me one... I'm cobbling together a .243 Win for my boys and that'd be nice for giving their smaller hands purchase on the knob.

    Thanks for sharing!

The handle is from SSS. Its their tactical stainless bolt handle. I like the shape. It fits my hand well and they are priced reasonable.

The buck is being shoulder mounted. It is a 4x4 buck (2 non-typical points) and dressed out at 145 lbs. His main beam measured 31 1/2" on the inside but i should have measured the outside so he should make a bit over 32". To tip to tip spread was 21" and the outside spread was 20 1/2". Hes not a record breaker but hes a very nice buck!
