From the beginning Savage has always been the ugly duckling but why change a good thing?

i wanted to improve the stamped steel look....i have ideas, but i was hoping some one had a pic so i could have something solid to base my design from. i was thinking of cutting it off just below the stock and welding in a machined lever of some sort.

I agree that the release tab is hideous but the only thing I've done to them is to checker the tab.

I like your idea of a machined attachment but coming up with a design and welding it onto the piece could be challenging.

welding it wont be as much of an issue as finding something that looks like it belongs there. i might just look through the gun parts at midway or brownells.

    Re: bolt release modifications

No, I really hadn't planned on offering these. The only reason I done this one is that I was having a problem with the bolt release dragging slightly on the receiver, and as you all know they will NOT bend, they break instead. So while I was at it....I figured it should be eye catching and more ergonomic as well.
It is made from stainless and welded on.

Dadgum Fred, I had already gotten excited. I believe there might be a market for them. I know you are extremely busy and have more than you can do, and keeping these in stock would add to your workload. Would offering this as a service like your fluted bolts(I love mine) be an option on an action sent in for say a t&t? I'm not trying to be pushy and apologize if I am but your bolt release is light years ahead of what Savage is using.

    Re: bolt release modifications

So what's the right price? You're making them so it's up to you to set the price!! Can't be any worse than me buying 4 or 5 fluted bolt bodies at a time. ;D ;D
Only you know how much work you put into them. Just make sure you make enough of them. You know, supply and demand? Make them, set your price and see what happens. My guess is they'll sell pretty fast. Faster than you might think.
Just make them and don't tell Lisa till you've got a bunch ready to go.
