I ordered a 6.5x47 Lapua 28’’ Bull barrel with the recessed crown for my Rem 700 along with the barrel nut that Jim offers. When the barrel arrived, I thoroughly inspected the chamber, crown, and finish. All I can say about that is WOW!!! I have never seen a barrel that looked this good, and I have owned many custom barrels. Now, as far as assembly, the whole process only took me about 45minutes to 1hour. I lapped the bolt lugs, screwed the barrel into the action until it made contact with the go-gauge, then I torqued the barrel nut down, and checked the head space with the no-go-gauge. Now, the good part-after setting up at the range, I fired four shots to get zeroed at 100 yards, then I shot the first three-shot group, and was completely blown away. All three went into one hole. I actually had to walk down and look at the target just to make sure that my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me. After confirming the group, I shot several more one-ragged hole groups. The worst group was just over ¼’’. The following day I shot a few 200 yard groups, and again was blown away by this Rem-Age barrel that I almost past on. The worst 200 yard group was just over ½’’. So, for anyone who is thinking about re-barreling their Rem 700, before going through the long drown out and expensive process of the traditional rebarreling method of the Remington 700, you owe it to yourself to give one of Jim’s Rem-Age barrels a try. I think you will be impressed not only by the quality of the barrel, but also by Jim, who is a great guy.

I gotta ask, what load does it like?

It likes everything so far but the first load I tried was hornady 123gr A-max with 38grs RL15 and it shoot one hole groups. It also shoots 130gr bergers really good with 37grs of RL15.

I really want one of these barrels for a f/tr rifle build. What is the muzzle diameter on a varmint contour at 26" and what would it be at 24"? I can't decide how long I want the barrel to be. I even thougt about getting one cut to 20" so I could put a can on it and shoot subs. Any ideas on one of these barrels for 600 yard f/tr?

If you read the article I wrote, it will give you a good idea, about these barrels. It is located on the home page. My barrel cut to 25 measured 1.010.

I ordered a 308 Win, bull barrel form my Rem too, just for F/TR. I got the 1-10 twist at 28 inches.

Getting real anxious, to shoot it. But I have been shooting a Savage 10, in 6 XC with a varmint barrel in the mean time. That thing is a hoot. :)

I got the "call" Monday night from, Jim. My 6.5X284 barrel showed up today. I hope it shoots as well as it looks.
I did set it up in the lathe and indicated the chamber. It was with in .0003-.0004. I'm very impressed and happy.

Thanks, Jim.

Good Morning,

I've been doing some load development with my 6BR 8 twist 28" CBI bull barrel with mixed results. I've tried the Berger 105 VLD's and the hybrids, and so far my best 4, 5 shot group shot Agg. is 4" at 600 yards. I was hoping for better results. My next test will be with the Berger 108's. Has anyone had any success at 600 yards with this Barrel who would be willing to share some load data with me? It's really becoming frustrating, because I shot a 2.922" Agg. with my stock Savage 6BR LRPV at the last 600 yard BR shoot.

Thanks in advance for any help, Ken

A 4 inch agg is nothing to sneaze about. I have shot my Crieterion 6mmBR and agg in the mid 3's. Load is 30 grs of varget with a 107 SMK.

I am still waiting for mine. I ordered 2 barrels back in July-August timeframe. I have the .260 Rem barrel. Still waiting for my .223 Rem barrel. My .260 Rem barrel is ok, not great but ok. It does not foul much, I will give it that. Accuracy, is just under MOA. The throat is a tad short, but that's not a bad thing. Maybe it will last a tad longer than a long throated barrel. I can keep chasing the lands.

With the 130 Berger VLD in my 260 Remington CBI barrel, 2.95" OAL is touching the lands; the 140 A-Max is 2.90".

You guys with a Criterion 308, what are your maximum COAL's running with different bullets? I am going to get one of these for my next build and was thinking about getting a dbm system using Alpha Mags. The maximum COAL for them is 2.985, just wondering how far off lands this will be. Thanks.

Not speaking for a Criterion barrel per se, but with that COAL, the odds are good that you will jammed into the lands long before you use all that length - unless you get it throated extra long.

My *long* single load 155.5gn loads are in the 2.990-3.000" range. Other bullets that have a longer bearing surface and/or shorter nose cone will likely have a shorter OAL to the lands.

Great day at the range today. I finally found a combo that my 6BR Criterian barrel likes!!!! After not having much success (by BR standards anyway) with my 8 twist 28" bull barrel with 105 VLD's and hybrids, I worked up some loads with the 108 bergers at 600 yards, and what a difference.

Relay 1 - 4 shot group 1.137" (only had 4 bullets left after sighters)
Relay 2 - 5 shot group 2.112"
Relay 3 - 5 shot group 1.998"
Relay 4 - 4 shot group 3.043"

All 4 relays were using different loads, but you've got to believe that I'm a happy camper. I got my Christmas present today. Thanks Jim for an outstanding product.

Got my 7mm-08 barrel in last week! did some easy break in @ hundred with .3" inch group in the first 5 shots with some left over factory loads. I am very happy and sure that with some loads being worked up it will defiantly be a shooter. Also after the first 20 break in shots the barrel came clean in 3 or 4 swabs! easy clean up to say the least.

Finally done installing my new Critrion 300WM barrel! If I could figure out how to get a pic in here I would post but here is the rundown.
I started with a 116FCSS which is a sporter barrel accustock accutrigger model also in 300WM.
Shopping list included
26" Criterion Varmint contour 300WM barrel, recessed crown
NSS recoil lug
NSS Barrel nut (stainless)
EABCO varmint picanny rail
Tactical Works stainless bolt handle
Burris TAC 30 6.5-20 scope in Burris Xtreme Tac rings

Since the NSS recoil lug is wider than the factory one I had to mill the accustock lug slot to fit, then open up the barrel channel to fit the varmint contour. I like the feel of the accustock for hunting.
The rifle looks like a 10 and weighs in at 11.5LBS unloaded. Cost total $1075 after selling the factory barrel. Now we will see if it is a shooter!

Criterion Barrels are now offered in the following contours:
Bull Barrel - 1" at 28" - slightly over at 26" - slightly under at 30"
Varmint Barrel - .8 at 26" - slightly under at 28"
Lite Varmint (new offering) - .7 at 26" - tradional Varmint style taper
Heavy Sporter - .7 at 26" - matches Savages Magnum Contour, tapered and then straighter to the muzzle
Sporter - .600 at 22" - can be extended to 24" if desired

Both Criterion and I feel that these contours are more than adequate for your barrel contour choices.

Can someone explain the difference of the Lite Varmint and Heavy Sporter?
