I cant wait to hear how these are shooting! Anyone know the diameter at the muzzle for the varmint and the heavy sporter? Trying to decide between the two, but I have been unable to find any info regarding muzzle diameters. Thanks!

Follow the link on this page. Note the list of caliber options which is larger than what Jim has on his page here (25-06!). I assume Jim can get these other caliber options as well. I've got one in 7-08, and it tells me it is lonely.

Would love to see a 6.5-06.......might have to consider 280 AI instead

I'm one more happy customer. Rebarreled my 25-06 with a Criterion barrel in Lite-Varmint contour. It's been shooting half inch groups for me!

Gary,
One of my favorite 22-250 barrels for long range work is a 26" - 9 twist. It will handle up to the 75 just fine and it shoots bug hole groups with the 69 gr. Sierra Match Kings.

I have a 1in8 criterion in .223 and was wondering which types of bullets will let you get the most accuracy out of my barrel. It is set up as a benchrest gun.

Do you guys have anything to fit the Remington 788 in 22-250 maybe a 1:9 twist?

I have nearly read this entire thread today, there are some fine shooting/looking rifles here to say the least.
I hope I am as lucky when I get ready for a barrel swap. Nice work fellas.

I'm asking Jim Briggs, do the Rem age barrels from CBI fit the 788 as well as 700's. I'm not sure if the barrel attaches any different.

The thread pattern for 788 is 1''x20tpi.The 700 is 1 1/16x16tpi.

Question for Jim,
Are you able to obtain these barrels with fluting?
Specifically a 26" varmint profile in 243win.

Thank you

33 pages on CBI and nothing equivalent on Shilen?
Love CBI. I actually ordered a CBI last week for my first barrel swap. I received a Shilen instead and decided to keep it. I was just trying to get some info on Shilen.

I have two CBI's neither shoot as good a 2 shilens or the mcgowan. My FTR shoots 175's with a factory 12 twist better than the 10 twist 28"CBI. Marketing in the right place at the right time means everything. Look at apache. Jim (apache)started doing barrels for Savage Shooter members and himself several years ago. Now he is all the rage. For good reason, he takes his time and gets the chamber right. Sinman is good as well. They just cant deliver the quantity. Give me a CBI barrel chambered by Jim (apache) or Sin and I will shoot the teets off a nat at 300yds.

Shilens are great but dang you either got bad CBIs or didn't break them in right. After 60 shots my CBIs shoot sub .5MOA out to 500 yards and only needs 4 patches to clean ever time with over 50 shots through them between cleaning. ZERO copper fouling. Mcgowens are known to have some issues here and their but they are good about setting you up with either fixing your barrel or sending you a new one. If I am building a serious long range rifle...I go Krieger, if I am looking for hunting deer out to 700 yards on a budget, I go CBI. Never will go mcgowen.

P.S. my best group to date is a CBI 7mm rem mag with 160 accubonds. .89 inch group at 400 yards. Maybe I got lucky on the ones ive had.

Shilens are know for being a quality barrel. Cbi is less noted hence the thread of ppl showing their great barrels to instill confidence in buying something less known.

I would take a shilen over a cbi any day but cbi definitely are not bad barrels. I just dont think they are quite as good as shilen at being consistently good.

Krieger takes the cake. But isnt it Krieger that owns cbi?;)

Honestly maybe I just lucked out but the CBIs ive owned and others would suggest they are just as good as shilens...
