How do I make the decision between the 2. It is clear that a Shilen from NSS would be quicker and cheaper. Kreiger would take longer and cost about $100 more.

So, how do I choose? Just looking to get better than 1/2” groups at 100 yds with long range hunting bullets like Nosler Accubond LR.

Either will likely do that no issue. I’m almost there with a basic er shaw barrel and a lot of factory barrels can do it. I would probably go with the cheaper of the two

Have you considered the CBI from NSS? they were the OEM manufacturer for Krieger just a few years ago (might still be). It's every bit as accurate as a Shilen Select Match (maybe better)and in the same ball park regarding cost.

.5 MOA is pretty good... To get it below that, requires practice, practice, practice, and maybe more load development. How many powder/bullet combinations have you tried? Berger, Hornady, Sierra would be some other bullets I would try.

Good luck to you,

I only have experience with 2 different aftermarket barrels. My Shilen Select match and my proof Carbon are both 1/8 MOA.

spend you money and take your chances.
i buy krieger for most of my rifles.
lilja hart broughton all work well.
1/2" aint hard. staying below is.
the chambering is just as important , is not more, than who made the bbl

I bet you could never tell a difference between the two on paper. Both will shoot extremely well and when you start talking about groups like that its the little things in the reloading process that will make the most difference. a bullet change, powder change or primer change can make huge differences on group sizes.

go look at posted results in any type of rifle shooting and see how many are using any specific
brand.. look what winners and competitors are using verses internet opinions.

Well, I see Barlein, Kreiger and Rock Creek in the winners circle. I ended up with a Rock Creek. I can’t wait!

The World record at 600 yards is by Bart Sauter and it is .611,Do Not know where you dreamed up .441

Bart set a 600yd IBS Light Gun World Record last year at .311”.

On April 21, ‘19, Bart shot a .282” ... 50 score, at 600yds, shooting his Light Gun in Heavy Gun class.

BE AMAZED!

Correction...this group was shot 2018. Apparently it takes a while for records to be certified. Lots of numbers for a small mind to keep up with

Kinda surprised that I haven’t seen Douglas mentioned?

you should think hard about what you just said.
there is a reason.
not all bbl makers have kept up with modern times.
good bbls are available form lots of sources
great bbls come from fewer places.

I've used almost every brand of custom brand barrel's over the years, they all have shot fantastic once you find the perfect combination of powder/bullet for them.

when you move from
HUNTING
to
TARGET
to
COMPETITION
there is a difference
noticeable in the average bbl swap savage build,
probably not.
