I had 2 Shilen. Both shot extremely well. 1st one was a prefit. 2nd had done elsewhere. They asked me about the blank as it seemed to be really soft for a SS blank. And also years ago it was known that Shilens shot out faster than others.

I know Krieger sources US barrel steel. Not sure about the others.

I got a Krieger barrel and a Bartlein barrel from Compass Lake last summer and built two AR uppers. They were both 20" varmint .223 barrels.

The best 5 shot group at 100 yards with the Krieger I was able to get so far was this one using Berger 77 OTM bullets:

Just recently got a Shilen 1 in 7 .223 bull barrel and Savage target action from NSS. I got tired of waiting for a 1 in 12 .223 Shilen and 1 in 14 twist .222 Shilen so I got the 1 in 7 since NSS had it in stock. This is my first center fire bolt gun and it seems easier to shoot small groups than the ARs. This barrel has been pretty accurate. I hope the two Shilen barrels I have on order are even more accurate. Best 5 shot group so far at 100 yards with Berger 77 OTM bullets:

Very impressive!

You've obviously got your bench technique perfected to get groups like those.

What is the set-up (bipod, bags, etc) used for your testing?

Thanks.

Just to mix things up a bit, X-Caliber is having a 25% off sale through December 31st. I just ordered a new bull barrel in 6.5 CM. Got about a thousand pieces of once fired Hornaday brass and lot's o bullets, and a model 12 small shank action with Target Accutrigger, so all I need now is a new stock. Might order a Richards Microfit, and maybe get it all put together by Spring.

The Shilen has sure shot well for me in a 7RM that I built on a Manners. Capable of 1/2 MOA with some work. Never shot a Krieger though, but I'm sure their reputation precedes them.

As of late, I've been pretty partial to Brux, although my light
gun build has a CBI spun up.....As for Douglas ?? Back in the
day when .222 was king in short range BR, more shooters the
naught had one shouldered. Times do change and so has the
lengths of the game.

I know this is a late response, but I installed a shilen match select hvy spotter at one stock 6.5x55. After about 15 shoot and clean rounds tried some nosler trophy grade 140 gr accubonds. Very happy less then .5 moa moved to 200 yards less than .5 moa in fact .8 at 200 yards moved to 300 yards less than .5 moa . I am very happy and have yet to work up loads cant wait

I dont have the patience to wait on things, so I ask what do you have on the shelf. If they would have had an CB it would have been mine. Now that I have shot the shilen, its gonna be hard not to by another.

I have an inner ear condition that can be worsened by rifle recoil but still want to shoot my 260.
NSS had a 1/8 twist in stock but to minimize recoil I plan to shoot light bullets, and figure a 1/9 would work better with them. Anyway, that's the reason for the delay.
My Grendel has a Shilen and I'm well pleased with it.

Ran across this interesting comparison of Muzzle Brakes -

It showed how they compare in a few areas, including recoil and noise.

That's a good article thanks for posting it. In addition to limiting recoil I also try to keep the sound down so my barrel is threaded 5/8x24 and has a Silencerco muzzle brake attachment installed that I put my suppressor on. I doubt if the muzzle brake does much with the can installed but this rifle is a pleasure to shoot, I feel next to nothing at my shoulder and I really don't think it's hurting me much.
