For years I have been convincing myself that my bolt guns got the job done and I really didn't need an AR, but the past few months the urge has gotten to be too much. So, after looking at factory offerings, I decided to build one myself and finally got all the parts together. Nothing fancy, just a basic rifle.

Looks good - almost a twin to my S&W M&P15 TS. I still need to get one of those snap-on cheek risers though - seems I never think about it when placing an order.

The AR bug is addictive. I have now built two, 6.8 spc and 223. The 6.8 is for my daughter to deer hunt and it works great. The 223 is a 24" .750 gas block prairie dog gun. It is hands down the best gun I have for dogs. Currently building a twin to the 24" to help the barrel cool off some. I would put a picture up but it won't load from my iPad. :(

Good looking first build, and you will be much more satisfied with the fact that you put it together. As said, it is VERY addictive. I am putting together an 18" upper this weekend. So many possible configurations out there, you can't stop at one.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I fear I've started something that may get out of hand. I think I need another upper in 300 Blackout for this rifle and I am already planning another complete rifle, maybe something in 6.5 Creedmore.

Here's my other one, a custom build based around Anderson receivers.

Anderson upper and lower receiver
Anderson BCG
RRA LPK
Geissle SSA-E2 trigger
A2 Buttstock Assy
MOE Grip
Enhanced Trigger Guard
CMMG Ambi Selector
BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 charging handle
Troy LP Gas Block
DPMS 18" SASS Fluted BarrelTroy 15" Alpha Rail
PA M4-72 Compensator
American Defense Recon 30 STD QD Mount
NightForce SHV F1 4-15x50 MOA optic

Only thing I would change on this is the barrel. It's a well made and shoots good, it's just heavy as all get out. I actually had to open up a standard AR barrel nut about 0.040" to get it to slide over the barrel. Barrel diameter also makes the barrel/forearm assembly/disassembly a bit of a jigsaw puzzle. Eventually I want to change it out for an 18" pencil barrel, I just haven't been willing to spend the money to do it.

I also have two Spike's stripped lowers that still need built into rifles, but they've been collecting dust for 4-5 years now. I don't shoot the two I have enough to justify building more, but I've got them if I need them.

I have more uppers than lowers. Gotta fix that!

...but I've got them if I need them.ahaha amen brother!! I bought a bunch of the PSA stripped when they were $40. I'm in same boat. I have one SBR'd lower, probably should Form 1 another one or two. Anyway, for now my wallet's focus is bolt gun precision work. I'm the opposite of OP.

Nice builds, it is fun.
Here are a couple I built 6.5 Grendel and a 223 Wylde

The ARs are a lot of fun for sure. One part at a time stretched out and you hardly notice your spending money

Not sure that I have the patience to do it that way.

What height is the cheek riser on the stock? I have the SWFA one piece mount and would like to get a little higher on the stock. I see they come in a bunch of heights.

That one is 1/4", but I also got rid of the scope mount and scope pictured and went with a Burris PEPR mount and a 4-18x40 scope. Here's how it looks now. I kind of wish I had gotten the 1/2" riser, and I may do so before fall.

Yeah, I'm considering a 300 BLK build, I just have to convince my wife that I need one. :frusty:

Mine is a Magpul, it's the only one I've used and seems to work ok.

Nice looking build. Have done two small frame builds and one large in 308 but I am here do to my 110 .270 Winchester build. Depending on how that one comes out, I am already thinking 6.x light weight large frame may be in my future.

And the addiction continues. New upper, 6.5 Grendel, 20" barrel. Dang it, now I'm going to have to build another lower.
