Greetings from snowy Michigan! I recently purchased my first Savage rifle, an Axis II in 6.5 Creedmoor, with hopes of upgrading the stock and scope. My problem to date has been trying to figure out whether the Boyd's AT-One stock was going to allow the Axis II barreled action to drop in. Seems to be conflicting information on the web. One site says the only difference between the Axis and the II is the trigger, another says the whole action is different. Hope someone here can set me straight. Boyds just says that I should be sure the Axis II fits a stock that's made for the Axis. Uh huh.
Thanks!

to hijack my own thread: how about AT-One for Axis II? anyone try it yet? and...
Metal trigger guard? from Boyds?

I just browsed the website and it appears that the At-one is compatible with the Axis line... And according to Foxx above, the Axis and Axis II are the same. So it should work. As for the metal trigger guard, I just ordered it from savage directly. I did not realize that I could order the metal trigger guard from Boyds at the time.

I found it to be a significant upgrade once I pillar bedded the action. You get a much more consistent torque on the rear action screw then using the plastic one.

here's what I got from Boyds:

I recently bought a 6.5 Creedmoor chambered Savage Axis II rifle, and would like to drop the action into one of your AT-One stocks. I don't want to make a mistake, so please let me know if I need to order the trigger guard 10061.Thanks,

Hello,We do not have stocks available for the Axis 2. Only the Axis. You will have to contact Savage to see what the difference between models are to be sure this will fit for what you need. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you

so, since I'm not enthused about spending money for a product that the supplier isn't sure about...

any more kind and gentle users want to chime in with their practical experience?

Thanks a bunch so far- appreciate it!

My Boyd's fits snug on the aluminum block/trigger assembly. I just wiggle it in, make sure everything cycles and tighten the action screws. This is on a pro varmint stock, axis 2. Works for me.

Hey John, is your Axis II a standard profile barrel or a bull barrel? I have one with the bull barrel and I’m curious if it would work. What is the difference in price for the trigger guard from Savage and the trigger guard from Boyd’s? I’m still confused rather the matte trigger guard on Boyd’s site is plastic or metal cause they advise when you buy one of their stocks you get a plastic trigger guard and if you want a metal one you must order the stainless one listed in their accessories section. Thanks in advance, Matt.

Did you use the plastic trigger guard or buy a metal one? Hard to tell in your pic. I’m curious if they offer a matte black metal trigger guard.

The way I read it it said if you want a metal trigger guard a stainless one is available on the accessories page. When I went over there and looked there’s a stainless one and a matte black one. The only info given is that they are exactly as originals. Well, if the original is plastic I can’t see buying another! I never realized there was such a steep learning curve to this whole aftermarket stock situation :) .

Matt,

Mine is a taper barrel, not the bull barrel.

whoops! didn't read carefully enough. I'm betting the difference in price from boyds and savage is insignificant though

You’re probably right. I guess this is why we find this kind of stuff so intriguing you think? Who knew just simply buying a stock could be so complicated!!

Only difference is the trigger...
