110 270 changing caliber

I have a 110 that's been sitting in the back of my safe since i purchased it back in 2000 i been throwing the idea around for some time about rechambering it in something like a 300 win mag if possible what i need help on is i want to build a long range precision gun on this action something lets say for 1000 yards competition what barrel, stock , trigger scope would you recommend and what is the best supplier this will be my first attempt at building one up myself i'm looking forward to it .

You don't "need" a .300 Win Mag to for a 1000 yard competition unless you want to. You might want to consider the .264, .277, and .284 cals in a non-magnum chamberings; i.e. 6.5x284, 284 Win, .270/AI, .280/AI, etc ...

I have a .270 AI in Savage 110 LA with 30" Lilja SS, 1:8" 3-groove primarily to propel the 165/175 Matrix VLDs. My current accuracy load for the 175 is pushing 2993 FPS.

I truly mean this in a polite manor, by your question you are a long way behind being able to match any guns capabilities at that distance; so have fun and build what ever you like.
I've shot 223's past 1100 for a long time. I currently shoot my 308 and a Creedmoor to a mile. The 308 is a factory barreled FP. The Creedmoor is a Marlin XL7 with a ER Shaw barrel. Load work and trigger control mean WAAAAAYYY more than people want to give them credit for.

I built a 300 win mag on a Stevens 200 long action. Heavy stainless barrel, JP Tank Brake, Rifle Basix trigger, Millet scope, stiffened the factory stock with epoxy with steel dust in it for filler and a 1/8" diameter fiberglass rod from a fiber optic cable in each side to enhance stiffness. A Harris bipod and the rifle performs better than I can. I have about $1,300 in the rifle and am very happy with it. (that includes the Go-No Gages, I already had an action wrench.)

Thanks for the info I would like to keep my budget around 800 bucks . My primary use for this rifle will be for bench rest competition several guys at my local range have told me to go with a 7mm told me I would not find better grouping

Thanks I have a Leupold VX-3*I was considering using on this build I have probably around 150 guns just never built one up my self I have decided to go with 280 remington or 30-06 thanks for all the help and the info

Leupold vx-3 is a high quality hunting scope. Not so sure it has the features needed for tactical or target shooting at various ranges. Namely, parallax adjustable and target turrets (indexed and finger adjustable).

Ok now that i was forced early retirement due to an injury I'm going crazy and been wanting to take up a new hobby and this is it it's all new but I'm bound and determined to learn what and as much of it as I need to so if I ask a crazy question or two at first just bear with me. Thanks for the info I can go more on the budget like I said I have alot of fire arms I can sale one to fund this no problem

Foxx, Why could he not build a 300WM from a 110 that was built as a 270? All you gotta do is change over to a .532" LA bolt head and swap out the mag and follower for the 7RM/300WM size box and away you go.

My beef with Leopold's (sub $1300) is they mix and match turrets & reticle, AND have shyte for adjustment range. I am shooting the snot out of the FFP mil/mil Primary Arms scope and loving it! The glass really is better than the SS 3-15. And it has a butt-load of adjustment.

OP. Anyone who tells you "A" cartridge groups better than another, needs a Chuck Norris round-house to the face. This is a hobby, build something that interests you.

In my opinion, and I'm looking at building a .300 Win Mag for longer range stuff, hunting, that my .338 Win Mag and 6.5x284 can't cover, 26" is the minimum I'd consider. I'm actually looking at a 30" barrel plus a muzzle brake.
