ER Shaw barrel kit's.

Looking at midway the Shaw kit's "look" to be a great deal. Wrench and gauges will cost around 90 bucks alone. Are they worth it over a factory barrels ?

Yes those are a great deal if you need the tools. Shaw barrels have always shot great for me.

Here's how the math worked for me when rebarreling my Model 11 to .358 Winchester: $200 for the kit minus $20 off coupon = $180, recouped $20 from selling barrel wrench = $160, recouped $65 from selling factory barrel = $95 total investment. I still have the headspace guages but I'll bet they would sell for $25. If so, that would bring my total cost to rebarrel to $70. I don't see how I could get a .358 Winchester barrel for much less than that?

Here's what I ended up with. I cut and recrowned to 20" myself at no cost. I'm going to shoot cast bullets and I'm currently waiting for the weather to get better before I work up loads.

I bought the Shaw .308 Varmint kit, very satisfied with the wrench, gauges and barrel. In fact I'd be buying there .223 kit now but the twist is slower than I want. Shaw barrels shoot very well. The bore is for sure smoother and much easier to clean than a factory Savage barrel.

I bought a .223 Remington ER Shaw barrel kit several years ago on sale. With it came a barrel wrench, go/no-go gauges, and some lube. After owning it for a few years I finally decided to have it rechambered to .223 AI before installing it. Shortly after that it became my favorite varmint rifle. Either 40 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips with 30 grains of H-335 or 28 grains of the same powder with the 50 version of the same bullet will keep 5 shots in the half inch mark at 100 yards. I used the 50 grain bullet to take 4 prairie dogs in about 10 minutes from 680 to 705 yards one fine calm (rare!) Wyoming day a few years ago. I guess that it is fair to say that I like Shaw barrels.

I just noticed that the 7mm-08 that I wanted was back ordered till Aug. I can't wait that long so I'll use the factory barrel I just bought.

I have 2 of the .223 kits, both 1/14" twist, 24" which was not what I really wanted, but they were on sale 2 years back so I snagged them. Very happy I did as the one I installed shot every round into almost the same hole via .324" after getting it sighted in and ran 40 rounds in it. It still shoots under .500" to this day.
The other is still on my shelf as a spare....:)

The 308 Shaw "kit" I got for my first build will shoot under 1" @ 200 yds. It started out on a 110 action,now rebuilt on a Stevens 200 SA. Waiting for better weather to see what it will do now.I now have 2 Shaws and both are shooters.

I'm looking at doing a 22-250 SA for my dad and was looking at a Stevens 200 in SA already chambered for 22-250 but I want to rebarrel to a heavy barry and thread it for our suppressors. I was also looking at the Shaw kits on Midway because I need the tools and the gauges. I'm an FNG at some of this stuff so bear with me for asking but the kits are labeled for 110s, can I throw this barrel with a large shank on a short action?

All Stevens 200 models are Small/Standard shank, so a Large shank kit will not fit. Now a kit for a small shank will fit. Stevens 200 actions are the exact same as the 10/110 model series, they just normally had less shine to their finish and a crappy trigger (which can be switched out for most any other Savage trigger). So look for a kit for a Small Shank, small shanks are more common.

I do not think e r shaw makes large shank barrels. Do not confuse heavy or varmint barrel with " large shank". Unless your action is "target" or short magnum it is likely not a large shank. I never heard of a large shank 22-250 but I guess it is possible. I know large shank actions use shorter barrel nuts compared to small shank barrels/actions. Someone else here can tell you how long the small or large shank nut is so you can measure yours to verify. Then again I am also quite sure that there are no large shank stevens actions.

Also, do not confuse long ACTION] (110) or short ACTION(10) with large/small SHANK. The terms are not related in any way.

Those kits are "Small Shank" and will fit on your Mod 10, or Short Action Stevens 200 just fine. Midway lists them under Mod 110, but the barrels fit both Long and Short Action, and they are Small Shank.

Next question, if a short action Savage 10 is a large shank action, can you hook up a small shank barrel?

No you are using a large shall action you use a large shank barrel only
