Thanks for the picture. That does help clarify it. Sure wish I would think of all these questions at once instead of bothering you.
1. Did you purchase the savage steel pillars set shown on the page? http://www.stockysstocks.com/servlet/the-434/Savage-10-fdsh-110-Steel-Pillar/Detail
2. Did the trigger guared you received with the target action fit the stock?

Really appreciate your help.

Hamps, you're not bothering me. I love messing with this stuff. Keep 'em coming!

To answer your questions, 1. Yes, and 2. Yes. But in reference to #1, yes I bought them because Stocky's website basically said it was necessary, but it wasn't, because my stock arrived with a nice set of pillars already installed, for which I was very happy because I didn't want to install them myself. But now I'm stuck with a set of pillars that I don't currently need. Actually, two sets, because I ordered two stocks at the same time. Maybe there was a change at the manufacturer and they started installing them, without notifying Stocky's? (Stocky's doesn't make this stock). Anyway, mine arrived with pillars installed.
And yes, the triggerguard that came with my action fits the stock inletting virtually perfectly. Here are more pics:

Thanks for all your help and posting the pictures. Sounds like all that needs to be done is open up the barrel chanel and bed the action. If I end up buying one and need the pillars maybe can help you out and take a set off your hands. Thanks again and please keep me posted if you run across something that wasn't expected or proved challenging.

Will do. Looking forward to completing this one. Just gotta get up the courage to start mutilating that stock...

Any idea how much has to come out for a bull barrel?

It looks to be a substantial amount. Maybe 1/8"? for a good float. I plan to use a 1" dowel with a couple of wraps of sandpaper on it to open it up. I'm just a little scared to mess it up..

Does material need to be removed for the barrel nut?

Not sure yet...

Ordered my stock today. Supposed to be here on Monday. Will let you know if the pillars are included and the progress I make. Never fitted or bedded a stock before. I look forward to working on this project. Thanks again for the insight.

Started the project this weekend and wanted to give some updates. I ended up taking the supplied pillars out and made my own out of stainless on a lathe at work. The stock pillars were too low as they were below the factory inletting and I did not want to have to remove that amount of the stock to get a good float to accept the bedding material. I made the front pillar about .050" taller and made the major diameter longer so it fit to the bottom of the stock. The rear is roughly .100" taller. I used the dowel/sandpaper method to remove material for the barrel. It still took quite awhile to remove enough material to get a good free float. Looks like I will have to remove material along the sides of the action as it hits when installed and tightened down. I have not checked with putty yet but it looks like there will be enough clearance around the barrel nut. I also have enough clearance around the bolt release lever. I will post again when I have completed the project.

If you get a chance, take pictures and post them. I'd like to see how it's going. Thanks

I did not take many pictures but here is one I can post now until I get back home.
<a href="http://s276.photobucket.com/user/HAMPS007/media/IMG_20140223_154952_613.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk1/HAMPS007/th_IMG_20140223_154952_613.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140223_154952_613.jpg" style=""></a>
I epoxied a piece of alum in the mag well to fill the void. I added putty around the rear pillar to make a dam so the bedding compound would not ooze out past it which worked well. I also added putty for the barrel nut for the same reason (there was plenty of room for the nut) . I used a dremel to open up the areas around the front and rear pillar and adde some relief "dots" around the flat bottom areas as well to get a thicker mass. I did have to open the recoil lug both front and rear...more so the front as it peeled my tape off when running a trial fit. I poured and set it last night and had to let it sit until morning to release it. Even after applying "multiple" layers of carnauba wax some compound still stuck to the action. Most of it turned out well except there was some compound which stuck to the recoil lug alignment screw which of course pulled some of it away from the lug cutout area. It is not the best looking but for my first time I think it turned out OK. I will post a final pick once I get it all cleaned up.

It was a fun project. First one I have ever done. Now just need some decent weather to go break it in and do some load development. Thanks for your help barrel nut. Appreciate it.

Very interested to see how these stocks perform- and thinking of using one myself for an F-Class build.

I have not made it to the range yet. Will need barrel break in and load development which I already have set to go. Will let you know more once it has some use. I can tell you this much, it sure has a nice feel to it.
