Loads for 12:1 22-250

So I finally put the 22-250 together. It lives in a 11 action and this is a take off varmint barrel. I will be using this barrel for deer hunting and strictly neck shots so I am shooting under 200 yds. I would like to shoot something between 50 to 60some grains. Next year I will get a 8 or 9 twist to shoot the heavier bullets which will allow me to take other type shots than neck shots at further away than 200 yds.
So what are your loads?

Secondly, How bad do the bullets in the 80's and 90"s group at 200 yds? if we are talking 2 inches or less then I might try those as well.

PS - Yes, I know every rifle is not the same but I have found that this research does save me time and money compared to when I would just pick a bullet and powder and start testing...

I am still doing load development on mine and trying the SMK 53 HP flat bottom, the SGK 55 grain HP slat bottom, Nosler Varmegeddon 55G HP and poly tip, and the Hornady Vmax 55grain

I am pushing them with 35.5 grains of Varget for now until I get jump dialed in. So far mine likes 0.030 jump on the Sierras. I have not gotten to try the Noslers with the different seating depths. Hopefully this weekend!

I really wish mine was a 9 twist, but it is what it is. I will grab the 308 past 400 for now!

In my 12 twist 26" 22-250 varmint barrel, 35.0gr of Varget under a Sierra 55gr spritzer is deadly accurate and the Sierra bullet seemed to be a bit tougher than the V-Max or the Hornady 55 SP bullet. RL-15 was also a good choice, had the same level of accuracy but past 34.0gr I was getting pressure signs for some reason, so I went back to Varget.

1/2 MOA was the norm out to 350 yards. I have since sold that barrel and gone to a 22-250AI 9" twist.

35 grains of reloader 17 under a 69gr match king has produced groups in the .2s with three different 22.250s I have tried it in. All had 12 twist and factory savage barrels.

Hornady and Sierra make great HP bullets in the 50gr to 55gr range, Vmax's and Blitz Kings will come apart to early on impact, for what you want to do, I have a 14 twist now but when I had a 12 twist, it was 38gr of Varget or RL 15 and 2.300 coal.

my one in 12 stainless axis build likes the H414 36 grains to start my sweet spot is 39.5 for 50-55 grain Hornady - Berger, I hope this helps

Look into the Sierra 65g SBT. Your 12 twist will handle it with no problem.....use Sierra's 63g bullet loading data. The 65g bullet is a heavier construction and will hold together better than most .22 cal bullets.

50 grain Ballistic Tip over 35.5 grains of Varget, .010 off the lands. Groups about 1/2" at the range out of my factory 12 twist. Has culled many Texas deer in the last half dozen years. Neck, head, behind the shoulder... it shoots where I point. Except that time I hit the barbed wire fence...

I use 55 gr ttsx over 36.5 gr of varget . No telling how many hogs we've killed and a few deer. No need for neck shots with the Barnes. They work just fine behind the shoulder, and almost always get a pass through.

A stout charge of varget and 50-60 grain bullet, FB Berger, A-max nosler bt, v-max, that bullet weight has almost endless options. Your toughest task will be finding varget right now!

Great info guys! I shot it yesterday with comercial amo and it mostly shot under an inch at 100yds. Im sure reloading will make it shine.

I would consider the Nosler 64 grain bonded bullet as an all around medium game performer. They run about $40/100 and definitely work as a medium game bullet on deer and hogs. The 60 grain Partition is also a great choice. I have not used any of the Barnes all copper bullets.

Yes I have and got great results, speed and accuracy wise, but I have always found it temperamental, and have a tendency to spike pressure wise, and would go from no pressure signs to blown primers, with just a couple more tenths of a grain of powder.

Mind you it could have been just the batches of powder I was using, but in they end those were still my results, and did not know anyone else that use it regularly to compare my findings.

I don't see much mention about primers. I have large rifle from Winchester and cci. Any tips on it other than shoot what I have or like?
