I am completing my first rifle build, and end up with a SS BBL and a blued action. I am not to concerned about the mismatch but would like to see what others have done. Not sure if i can remove the blued, and if i can will it end up a different polish? or should i paint? not sure what my options are, just looking for some advice.
I have heard that you can remove the blued parts with bathroom cleaner and SS brush
Thanks

I replaced the factory bolt hnadle with a Savage large bolt handle "in the raw" to balance out the barrel. Nose is silver, center section to include base, scope and rings are black and the butt is silver again. Looks pretty nice. I'll get some pics up later.

Thats a good idea, I am looking at different nobs, found some nice ones at
http://www.sharpshootersupply.com/.

Yeah i would appreciate any pictures.

It seems to be a common issue just never talk much about because it doesn't matter other than cosmetic i guess.

In handguns, "Duo-tone" is quite fashionable these days. Stainless slides on a blue or black frame or the reverse with a blue slide on a silver-colored frame are all the rage. Just claim you are in the forefront of fashion and all your shooting buddies will want to follow your lead.

I have and ss barrel, a blue nut, a ss recoil lug and a blue action. In my mind the uglier the better. That way it is more embarrassing when I beat up on those "nice" looking rifles.

What finish would you use on a blue receiver, stainless barrel, recoil lug and bolt handle to make the entire barreled action look like a 10FP? What sticks to stainless?

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats the way I build them as well.
-Stainless action=everything stainless.
-blued action =blued barrel nut/ss lug and barrel

heres some pics of a few of my past builds, so you can get a visual of the different ways and pick which way you like the best.

A friend of mine had his blued action Duracoated in stainless to match his barrel and recoil lug, came out looking great. Hard to tell his action was ever blued.

My build is also with the SS lug, SS large bolt knob, SS bbl, black stock, matte black FP action & scope base & bbl nut.
You can make it out under the camo sleeve well enough, I dont have table top pics....:)

Here is how I made mine match. I put my black and gray rifle in a black and gray stock. Then added a duo-tone sidearm and told everyone that is how it was suppose to look.

Here is what I did with my last build. I used Brownells brushed stainless gun kote. Turned out pretty good.

Stomp, did you gun kote everything? There is no way you only did the receiver and it matched that good, is there?
