One concern would be if its 6.5-284 Norma, or Winchester. There are slight differences!
Not it sure about the scope base but I would think any standard base should fit. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.
I am a very new member and really new to Savage rifles. I just sold my 1K BR rifle with the third barrel on it. 6BR, 6BRX etc. I just bought a Savage model 12 BR in 6.5X284 online today. I should have it it in my hands next Wed. I would like to get all the reloading components ordered this weekend. New caliber for me so I have a couple questions. Read on another forum that there was a little difference in the diameter of the base of the brass from brand to brand. Supposedly Lapua, my brass of choice, bulges a little. Any truth to this? Second question is what scope base fits my dual port action? I did use the search looking for this info. I am old and a little senile so don't flame me too bad if I am in the wrong forum.

If the rifle was purchased brand new, the caliber would more than likely be 6.5x284 Norma. I haven't seen any modern factory 6.5x284 winchester rifles. The lapua brass is high quality stuff. I use the 6.5x284 lapua brass in my straight 284.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
I use Norma brass in my 6.5x284 Norma it just seems right, I thing it is great brass, picked it up at Midwayusa !!!
I agree with the 6.5x284 Norma..I had a chamber for 6.5x284 Winchester and the Lapua brass would not chamber, so I had to use Winchester brass and neck to 6.5. Use Lapua brass and enjoy.
For scope mounting I used medium height Talley Precision scope mounts for my Vortex Viper 6x24x50. Midway PN 727505. The bottom of scope is .190" above the barrel, it's a rock solid setup . I have a new 110 FCP-SR Good Luck Phipp
